commentators now second-guess saying the tournament should have been pushed back due to the french being pushed back a week and the "wet spring" in london ~

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 29 June 2021 19:37 (two years ago) link

having kyrgios back playing is all i truly need tbh

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 29 June 2021 19:46 (two years ago) link

yes, totally rooting for a good long entertaining run for him.

andrew m., Tuesday, 29 June 2021 20:55 (two years ago) link

love alize cornet. her guile, her complaining, her upturned nose. didn't realise she has the 3rd longest consecutive majors streak going at 58 and counting.

oscar bravo, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 11:31 (two years ago) link

Bianca unforced erroring her way to defeat against her at the moment.

oscar bravo, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 11:33 (two years ago) link

hooray! we don't have to watch isner lumber around the baseline for the rest of the tournament! and nishioka gets his first trip to the 2nd round. win-win.

andrew m., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 16:23 (two years ago) link

around the court, i should say. he gets to the net.

andrew m., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 16:43 (two years ago) link

good fight put up by boulter, good grit by sabalenka to get thru

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 16:54 (two years ago) link

i thought tiafoe would get tested by pospisil but wow @ not facing a break pt and 41 winners / 13 unforced errors

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 19:19 (two years ago) link

kept trying to figure out who otte reminded me of, then it hit me...

andrew m., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:00 (two years ago) link

impressive you can play and post @ the same time!

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:43 (two years ago) link

lol that actually took me a second as i've never gone by andy

andrew m., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:03 (two years ago) link

first set of kerber vs tormo absolutely astonishing stuff. 70 mins 7-5 angie.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 1 July 2021 14:44 (two years ago) link

Italian bartender at the pub the other night (SUI 3-3 FRA, place to ourselves) had tickets for #2 Court today, glad he's getting to see a contest (though I'm guessing Svitolina's exit wasn't without its moments).

Sad to see Monfils go. Lockdown really snapped his late-career surge - he was in great form early 2020.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 1 July 2021 15:23 (two years ago) link

impressive by kenin

At the Slam, she defeated Wang Xinyu in the first round, before being defeated by Madison Brengle in the second round. In this match, Kenin set a new Wimbledon record, as she committed 41 unforced errors in just 45 minutes; this was equivalent to 0.91 unforced errors per minute.[67]

johnny crunch, Thursday, 1 July 2021 16:09 (two years ago) link

Kerber-Tormo now immense.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 1 July 2021 16:45 (two years ago) link

DF for three match points Kerber

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 1 July 2021 16:46 (two years ago) link

Done at the first.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 1 July 2021 16:47 (two years ago) link

Federer looking better than Tuesday, but Gasquet is practically his ideal opponent. 10 years since he dropped a set to him.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 1 July 2021 17:11 (two years ago) link

khachanov/korda 5th set break fest

1 hold each / 5 breaks each lol

we're @ 6-6

johnny crunch, Monday, 5 July 2021 13:40 (two years ago) link

make that 7-7 and 6 breaks each

johnny crunch, Monday, 5 July 2021 13:48 (two years ago) link

Jabeur/Swiatek had some fantastic shotmaking. Happy for Ons - played smart, dialled down the errors after losing the first set, and ran away with it

Roz, Monday, 5 July 2021 13:48 (two years ago) link

Frustratingly easy ride for Djokovic. Wish Berrettini was in his quarter. Fucsovics has now taken out Rublev, so he's next.

Michael Jones, Monday, 5 July 2021 14:53 (two years ago) link

fed has played himself into form & kept his time on court quite low..meds and then either felix or berrettini isnt exactly easy but i also am increasingly finding it hard to envision him losing on ctr court to someone other than novak

johnny crunch, Monday, 5 July 2021 23:44 (two years ago) link

make that hubie hurkacz instead of medvedev wow

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 13:16 (two years ago) link

novak/shapo top half semis

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 15:37 (two years ago) link

Fed is not looking good here

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:20 (two years ago) link

Tie break at the 2nd

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:38 (two years ago) link

Fuck me that slip..

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:41 (two years ago) link

wow hubie!

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:44 (two years ago) link

little of everything in that tiebreak, tough now for rog to dig out

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:45 (two years ago) link

Hurkacsz is 2 sets up, he has an excellent serve and great temperament

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:45 (two years ago) link

fed was 2 pts away from being up 5-1 and serving to close out that set btw

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:48 (two years ago) link

it’s like watching Serena being deconstructed by one of those next-gen players who are not in awe of her

ten man poland chasing this means hamsik feasts (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 16:59 (two years ago) link

fed at least wont crumble emotionally like serena usu does

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:03 (two years ago) link

hurkacz has only hit 12 unforced errors

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:05 (two years ago) link

straight sets, bagel last set - my word~

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:13 (two years ago) link

could this finally be the young male player to break through the Big 3 ceiling straight away and just go for that slam title (and Djoko’s throat), the way it’s so common on the women’s side these days?
getting ahead of myself probably, but it would be exhilirating

ten man poland chasing this means hamsik feasts (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

*exhilarating

ten man poland chasing this means hamsik feasts (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:33 (two years ago) link

Would love Shapovalov to win this. Be pretty happy with Berrettini. FAA would be amazing (to lose eight ATP finals in straight sets and then... just win a Slam). Hurkacz too... I mean, you can see where I'm going with this.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:39 (two years ago) link

Also... re: getting wiped out in a Slam qf like that and it possibly being the end of yr career. Why oh why couldn't Thiem 76 63 60 Djokovic at RG 2017 have been similarly career-ending?

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:41 (two years ago) link

At the end of the 2nd set, felt it was over so I switched off. I didn't want to see it.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:49 (two years ago) link

I mean, you can see where I'm going with this.

― Michael Jones, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 bookmarkflaglink

Yeah lol. Frankly if Djoko loses a set I'll be surprised.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:50 (two years ago) link

Prove me wrong kids!

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:50 (two years ago) link

standard in this berrettini/felix a-a match p dire tbh

oscar bravo, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 18:31 (two years ago) link

can’t see Shapovalov or Berrettini (or FAA) beating Djoko, but Hurkacz has that meteoric quality. it’s got to happen one day, might as well be him, now. please, I need this dream!

ten man poland chasing this means hamsik feasts (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 18:57 (two years ago) link

Hurkacz quality of play against Fed was incredible. Great winners, low on UE, amazing sublte touch at times (that lob from just behind the net in the second set (iirc), wow). If he keeps this up he could win this

willem, Thursday, 8 July 2021 09:14 (two years ago) link

Barty Kerber looks excellent from what I've seen

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 8 July 2021 13:48 (two years ago) link

I didn't see that coming half an hour go.

Wouldn't disgrace a Michael Jackson (Tom D.), Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:20 (two years ago) link

It’s best to get the pessimistic posts in early. ;)

Michael Jones, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:21 (two years ago) link

Terrific how he put some embarrassing shots out of his mind

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:22 (two years ago) link

Earlier in the set

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:25 (two years ago) link

Djokovic earning that early break

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:27 (two years ago) link

Djoko has a double break. Just throttling Berrettini, like a switch has been turned

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:38 (two years ago) link

berrettini's dad ripping a huge box vape in the stands is the content I tune in for

k3vin k., Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:48 (two years ago) link

Couple of UEs and an unexpected break back

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:55 (two years ago) link

Djoko straight into it, playing like a dream. 3 sps

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:57 (two years ago) link

Lol saved all three

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 14:59 (two years ago) link

Strong serving, and Djoko is made to serve for the set

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:00 (two years ago) link

Does it, 1-1

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:03 (two years ago) link

Brilliantly broken...

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:18 (two years ago) link

Berrettini fighting but 3-1 Djoko

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:24 (two years ago) link

If they mention Tom Cruise one more time..

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:28 (two years ago) link

Predictably awesome hold by Djoko

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:35 (two years ago) link

Nah not feeling it at all

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:47 (two years ago) link

i was so sad for pliskova yesterday.

also, watching the men's championship and hoping the underdog wins this

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:48 (two years ago) link

UE for the 3rd. Just plays with a little bit more composure in the tense points

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 15:51 (two years ago) link

On serve so far..

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:10 (two years ago) link

Novak is unbelievable

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:19 (two years ago) link

So good, makes it - BP..

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:20 (two years ago) link

DF, breaks, ofc

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:20 (two years ago) link

Reconciled to this. At least the first 30min of garbage has has no bearing on the result, Matteo has acquitted himself reasonably well and Novak has really had to play.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:23 (two years ago) link

CP

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:30 (two years ago) link

wow, djokovic wants england to win tonight

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 11 July 2021 16:53 (two years ago) link

okay, i misread that. he has said he supports italy

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 11 July 2021 17:01 (two years ago) link

When did he say that?

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 11 July 2021 17:32 (two years ago) link

No he said he loved football and wanted IT to win !

AlXTC from Paris, Sunday, 11 July 2021 17:38 (two years ago) link

(It being football, no italy !)

AlXTC from Paris, Sunday, 11 July 2021 17:38 (two years ago) link

https://football-italia.net/djokovic-i-hope-italy-win-but-only-in-the-evening/

he's a fan of ac milan, speaks italian, and spends a lot of time in italy, apparently

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 11 July 2021 17:42 (two years ago) link

I knew he'd probably want Italy to win, stupid question to ask him after he'd just won Wimbledon though.
