Wild stage today for sure. van Aert seems like he can do lots of things damn well individually — once he stitches it all together look out GC.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 July 2021 04:12 (two years ago) link

Wouty! I love this kid <3

Bummed that Julian went out when he did but he hit SO hard from the start, I dont know how he could have kept that level sustained

Haha. Surprised he’s still functioning!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 July 2021 05:01 (two years ago) link

he’ll have more on his plate now- Luke Rowe didnt make the timecut!

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 8 July 2021 05:25 (two years ago) link

Second in a bunch sprint on Tuesday, first on Double Ventoux on Wednesday. Phew!

Nils Politt is a goddamn legend

What ride, what a finish. Love it. His interview was really lovely & heartfelt too.

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 9 July 2021 03:45 (two years ago) link

Yeah, good day for the main folks to ease back and have this happen instead. A good finish!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 July 2021 03:54 (two years ago) link

The lad did it, 35 seems a bit unlikely but at start of the tour I’d have said the same about him winning any stages.

Dan Worsley, Friday, 9 July 2021 17:20 (two years ago) link

There’s still two more sprint stages, one seems like it could go to a big break like yesterday, it’s the day after the Pyrenees, but the other one is Paris, and I can’t see how anyone else beats him there, if he gets there.

American Fear of Scampos (Ed), Friday, 9 July 2021 21:02 (two years ago) link

Yeah I mean if you’re going to take the actual record, Paris with a flourish would be pretty great. I’ll bet he does it, one way or another.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 July 2021 00:59 (two years ago) link

I think I can predict two things with absolute certainty.

No commissaires will see Cav hanging off a car in the Pyrenees.

Bike Exchange will complain about Cav hanging off the cars in the Pyrenees.

American Fear of Scampos (Ed), Saturday, 10 July 2021 03:37 (two years ago) link

i skipped forward a couple hours early on bc it got kinda boring and then💥😰! i felt bad for wishing excitement on them, that crash looked so bad

but that finish! WOO!
Cav & those Quickstep leadout lads are pretty special

Great ride by the winner today - very punchy aggressive stage

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 July 2021 19:28 (two years ago) link

Touch of the Jens Voigt about that win, it was a gutsy one.

Madchen, Saturday, 10 July 2021 21:18 (two years ago) link

yes! def a “shut up legs” ride

What a crazy stage! But yeah, magnificent victory by Kuss, what a ride. Hadn’t realized it was the first US stage victory in ten years! Wonderful work.

Dare I say LOL at Ineos trying to break Pogacar and noooope.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 July 2021 02:33 (two years ago) link

it felt v clever until it all fell apart lol

I keep forgetting Kuss is American.

Weird to say a mountain stage is low key but it kinda was; still was nice to see Konrad win it. Bora happily picking up stage wins just because!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 14 July 2021 03:12 (two years ago) link

Yeah p chill stage all things considered.
Konrad rode like a king, lovely stuff

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 14 July 2021 05:12 (two years ago) link

crosswinds predicted for tomorrow’s stage

:D

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 14 July 2021 05:21 (two years ago) link

Well that was much more of a classic mountain stage. Pure physical effort and mind games over the last 10K in particular!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 July 2021 01:05 (two years ago) link

yes a cracking end to the stage
was out of my seat when Vingegaard came back and beat Carapaz to the line, can't wait to see those two go at it again on the Tourmalet

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Thursday, 15 July 2021 01:13 (two years ago) link

I’m late to finding out that Lachlan Morton already completed his self-supported tour/sideshow

john shopkins (naus), Thursday, 15 July 2021 02:35 (two years ago) link

what a bunch of psychos, that was awesome

lol at carrapaz lying in waiting thinking haha he has cracked them, pogacar is like lol ok sure mate byeee, vengaboy like i am herpes hear me roar

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 15 July 2021 05:02 (two years ago) link

vingegaard is really fkn amazing with his tenacity

also from the quotes he had carapaz’s number early on & said as much to pogacar

Not something you often see. Route of the Tour de France temporarily blocked by llamas in fog. Photo from TdF Race Radio. pic.twitter.com/RSC5abj6I0

Apologies, people. Turns out the photo is on the current Tour de France route, but it’s actually from a few years ago when this happened. Frankly, it’s still marvellous. My misunderstanding of the colloquial French on Race Radio.

Gotta love the llamas.

Well there ya go with that today — not surprised Ineos just went with the ‘let’s do the old reliable and have the squad grind it out’ and no. Now I’m pretty curious as to how Vingegaard and Carapaz are going to try and outsprint/psych each other over these last two stages.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 July 2021 23:26 (two years ago) link

i’d love to see vingegaard pwn carapaz

liked cav’s move on matthews in the early stage sprint too, very canny stuff going on between them these past few days

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 July 2021 03:13 (two years ago) link

stick a fork in rigo too i guess , sad to see him lose so much time

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 July 2021 03:15 (two years ago) link

Bit of a weird ‘are we going for it or not’ start today. And then nobody could figure out what to do with Mohoric with 25K to go!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 July 2021 05:01 (two years ago) link

And then of course Mohoric just going full asshole with the zipped lips thing, which I perversely appreciated.
