i want to be clear that im setting the bar at "someone who can crack the rotation this year" which i think is reasonable for a deep draft imo!
― class project pat (m bison), Monday, 26 July 2021 21:39 (two years ago) link
basically any top 10 pick will crack the rotation if they can walk (except for last year’s no 10 pick, lol) but the large majority of them especially outside the top 3 or 5 are not gonna be good right away. maybe the grizz get a great longterm piece and this is all gravy but i’d prob rather have just stayed at 17 and tried to get this year’s version of saadiq bey than take on a bunch of stuff bcuz i think i know who is gonna be a star at no. 10 (an 18 year old australian)
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 July 2021 21:46 (two years ago) link
lol fair enough!
― class project pat (m bison), Monday, 26 July 2021 21:50 (two years ago) link
i guess i can’t figure out what they think their timeline is… i could get with the idea that they should step back a bit and keep building given the hierarchy in the west right now but i bet that’s not what they’re thinking
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 July 2021 21:50 (two years ago) link
giddey in particular feels like a bizarre fit for them i don’t get that at all, they need athletic shooters not a crafty ball dominant point forward. if you could guarantee me that they get the equivalent of mikal bridges with this pick i’d be on board with what they’re doing here
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 July 2021 21:53 (two years ago) link
moses moody fits that bill
― class project pat (m bison), Monday, 26 July 2021 21:55 (two years ago) link
i guess the argument from memphis’ side would be that the gap between jonas and adams isn’t enormous, they have no cap issues given how young their team is, so why not eat adams and bledsoe’s contracts for 2 years in order to move up in the first and second rounds and get an extra lakers first. the logic isn’t unsound i just think you have to assume the player you pick at 10 is gonna be worse than you think but i guess most GMs don’t think that way
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 July 2021 22:00 (two years ago) link
they're reportedly also looking at franz wagner, who is probably not ready to contribute as a scorer but his defense and facilitating should translate pretty quickly
― bezos did the dub (voodoo chili), Monday, 26 July 2021 22:18 (two years ago) link
I think they truly just think giddey is a great player and maybe they’re right. In general I respect a team that just goes and gets their guy.
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 26 July 2021 22:39 (two years ago) link
yeah in that spot i would be looking for "anyone who can shoot" but the grizz have always done their own thing.
on the other side it's pretty hard to find a silver lining in giving up a bunch of draft position to undo the mistakes you did a year ago but i guess it's not the most painful way to get off of two bad contracts i've ever seen.

do people really think cade will be a point guard in the nba? like he’ll probably be a fine player, but i feel like people are trying to make it happen by repeating it or something
― circles, Tuesday, 27 July 2021 15:19 (two years ago) link
no reason to think he wont be in a league where lebron, luka, and ben simmons are all lead ballhandlers.
― class project pat (m bison), Tuesday, 27 July 2021 15:35 (two years ago) link
he feels like a middleton or tatum type player where you’d want to have a nominal PG in the line up but on important possessions he’s gonna have the ball in his hands a lot

i think the fit with killian hayes works in theory for that reason (assuming killian hayes is an actual nba basketball player)
― class project pat (m bison), Tuesday, 27 July 2021 15:53 (two years ago) link
I think I just hate the phrase “lead ball handler”. But yeah, I feel more comfortable projecting him as a big wing who can shoot and make some sick plays than as a full time playmaker that you don’t need a nominal point to pair with. It’ll be interesting to see how he fits or doesn’t fit with Killian.

i think cunningham, green, mobley is pretty much a done deal for the top 3, after that its probably suggs and barnes in some order. then theres a group of bouknight, kuminga, giddey, moody, sengun, and wagner that are probably locks for lottery picks. then a bunch of guys who are either high risk/reward guys (jalen johnson, keon johnson, kai jones, ziaire williams) or at minimum high level role players (garuba, kispert) or old rookies who should play right away (duarte, davion mitchell). and trades, shitloads of trades.
― class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link
gotta love trades
― Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu Rob Thomas (PBKR), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link
i'm hoping something happens in the top 3 to deviate from the chalk but it seems like it's gonna be chalk
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:30 (two years ago) link
probably a good group of dudes to go chalk on tbh
― class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:34 (two years ago) link
yeah those three guys are all considered safe picks and no one's going to kill a team that drafts one of them
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:35 (two years ago) link
feel like i'm hearing about an unusual number of low ceiling/high floor "he can play right away" guys starting around the 8th pick. going to be some busts among that group.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:36 (two years ago) link
im high on kai jones for the spurs, just an irrational love for a super athletic big who has realized and unrealized three-point potential and is still learning how to play
― class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:36 (two years ago) link
im v wary of sengun bc of his lack of defensive role, and everyone is convinced the spurs are going to get him, ughhhhhh
― class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:37 (two years ago) link
i think scottie barnes' hype is questionable, like he'll be a good defender but if he never learns to shoot ppl are gonna look at him like michael kidd-gilchrist or something
― class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:38 (two years ago) link
yeah i feel the same way. it's cool to get OG anunoby with the 23rd pick, not so cool to get him with the fourth or fifth pick. that said i have a sneaking suspicion masai is going to take him
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:40 (two years ago) link
i have watched very little video but did spend some time watching barnes shoot. it's pretty bad.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:40 (two years ago) link
suggs seems like a much more reasonable pick. i dont think he'll ever be mvp but a PG you can pair with FVV as lowry leaves, why overthink it?
― class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 29 July 2021 17:42 (two years ago) link
he just seems like a gamer who will do winning time shit, seems good idk
kuminga will be really interesting bc he was considered the #5 guy in this draft for a while and now could fall to like 8 (or maybe lower?) guy sacrificed a lot to get here and he's barely old enough to be here. seems like a reasonable risk to take him if you give him a couple of years to grow as a player.

WESTBROOK TO LAKERS???
Just in: The Lakers and Wizards are engaged on a trade that would send Russell Westbrook to L.A., sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Westbrook wants a move elsewhere and the Lakers are his preferred destination, sources said.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 29, 2021
lmfao
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 29 July 2021 21:18 (two years ago) link
if you trade westbrook you have to trade beal right?
The Lakers and Wizards are discussing a trade that would send Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for Westbrook, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The Lakers' No. 22 pick in the Draft could be in play, too. https://t.co/RQOnlyVnBS— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 29, 2021
so i think hield is staying put in SAC for now

lebron is gonna HATE playing with russ lmao

yup

everyone was like "lakers need to spread the floor" and then they trade a stretch 4 and 3&D wing for soon-to-be 33-y/o russell westbrook, good lord
