some more tradable expiring salary for memphis, and i think it saves a bunch of money for the clips though i am not seeing details on that yet

clips save 30 million bucks off their tax bill

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 August 2021 00:53 (two years ago) link

some of these all-in teams are paying crazy amounts in lux tax, its Good IMO

class project pat (m bison), Monday, 16 August 2021 01:13 (two years ago) link

steve ballmer is legit one of the richest human beings on earth pay the $30 mill bitch

J0rdan S., Monday, 16 August 2021 01:21 (two years ago) link

i don't think this is actually all that much about tax savings. beverley is expiring, they're probably not planning on being a contender this season with kawhi out, and they also probably think they can fix bledsoe after the batum and jackson reclaimations.

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:24 (two years ago) link

bev made an ass out of himself and the franchise in that phx series too

Clay, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:26 (two years ago) link

i can't stand bev on the court and don't think he's that good. i've also seen a lot of dire bledsoe playoff games. so it's probably a wash.

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:28 (two years ago) link

surely you can turn pat bev on a 14M expiring into something better than negative asset eric bledsoe

micah, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:30 (two years ago) link

idk, can you? beverley is in that special place where he's a limited player who is only useful to teams that want to win and also makes kind of a lot of money. i have no doubt the grizz will find a way to flip him but they can do it for future assets while the clips need to get someone who can play at a similar level now.

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:37 (two years ago) link

not sure what the clippers really need to be prepping for if kawhi is really gonna basically miss the whole year, gonna be a rough climb

Clay, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:40 (two years ago) link

well they can get a look at bledsoe this coming year and see if he will help, if not his guarantee for 22-23 is pretty small

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 August 2021 01:43 (two years ago) link

clippers need good value to pad out their bench and bledsoe is not that. i would have expected bev to be traded for young player/s who could be given heavy development minutes for a year while kawhi recovers. if bledsoe doesnt regain form (which he wont) the clippers are back where they started except bledsoe cant even shoot.

micah, Monday, 16 August 2021 03:21 (two years ago) link

yeah what iā€™m saying is there was no trade for beverley that was getting useful young players back (let me know if you can think of one) so this is arbitrage on an expiring contract.

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 August 2021 03:43 (two years ago) link

yeah

i guess gerson rosas was the guy that found beverley however many years ago playing overseas? love when GMs just go get their guys from their previous teams.

time to schedule the rachel nichols interview

pure rim rest (Spottie), Tuesday, 17 August 2021 15:35 (two years ago) link

the wolves are dying for any semblance of a defensive identity or attitude but yikes what a return on your number 6 overall pick. beverly is going to love playing with russell and towns lmao

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 August 2021 15:36 (two years ago) link

Timberwolves are such a weird franchise, 30 years of being just plain weird

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 15:45 (two years ago) link

the grizzlies have made so many moves this offseason & i'm not sure if they've gotten even a win better

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 August 2021 15:47 (two years ago) link

yeah it's all pretty much low-probability asset cycling but they might as well do it now before they have to pay people

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 16:06 (two years ago) link

seems weird like making moves for moves sake. i guess they got that draft pick

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 August 2021 16:10 (two years ago) link

I think this is just a contract dump for the Wolves. Bev is in the last year of his contract whereas Juancho and Culver have multiple years left

garuba def looked like a player in the olympics

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 August 2021 14:39 (two years ago) link

really disgusted with how well the rockets did in this draft, i need someone in texas to be the incompetent front office besides the spurs. i guess u cd argue mavs but luka will cover so many of their flaws.

class project pat (m bison), Wednesday, 18 August 2021 23:28 (two years ago) link

lets not overreact to some summer league games the rockets can still fuck this up

lagāˆžn, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 23:29 (two years ago) link

hope springs eternal

class project pat (m bison), Wednesday, 18 August 2021 23:52 (two years ago) link

rox probably still don't want to be good from an institutional standpoint so they might create a solid loser-culture that persists for a decade, hard to tell from this far out but i think they can stick the landing (of being shitty)

Clay, Thursday, 19 August 2021 00:17 (two years ago) link

i'm still a bit suspicious of them trading two future firsts for a non lottery pick but i know everyone loved sengun and he looked good in summer league so maybe they nailed that one. there are several all star level euro big men who fell out of the lottery currently in the league

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 August 2021 00:24 (two years ago) link

also it's possible jalen green ends up as the 4th or 5th best player of the top 5 picks. i heard tjarks make a good argument (before the draft) about the level that green has to reach as a score only 2 guard to match the value of guys like cade, mobley, suggs or even barnes -- if those guys hit -- who have more well rounded games in terms of contributing across the box score and on defense

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 August 2021 00:27 (two years ago) link

that's a good and interesting point by tjarks (no surprise). i do feel a little better about green than i typically would for someone with his profile for a couple reasons--first being i can't remember another guy where so many draft people were saying with conviction that he was a lock to score at a high level, like scoring title level in the pros. he's also not giving anything away with his size so there's a chance that his defense is at least ok, and it also seems like his work ethic and potential skill development are such that "score only" would be somewhat of a disappointing outcome.

but this is a talented class and some of these other guys could certainly jump him.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:11 (two years ago) link

yeah. i think tjarks made a good point, like if he's james harden then nothing else really matters. but if he's zach lavine that's still a good player but potentially pretty flawed. or if he's bradley beal, who may have led the league in scoring... not sure i would say brad is pretty flawed, but also we haven't seen him play for a winning team more or less ever. there isn't a huge amount of space between those levels, but also there is. harden's ability to get to the line, shoot the step back, and pass the ball is pretty insane so that might be an unfair bar

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:18 (two years ago) link

and it matters who you put around a guy with the lavine/beal skillset, like neither of those guys has been in a close to ideal situation. but taking the guy who can average 27/28 and trying to figure out the rest is reasonable.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:26 (two years ago) link

harden--beal--lavine are on all on average prob positive outcomes for a #2 pick, which isnt to say that someone picked after green wont be better

lagāˆžn, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:26 (two years ago) link

also kind of nitpicking here but i dont think you can put harden in the score only bucket, he cld prob lead the league in assists if he felt like it, and is a good rebounder, obvs not a great defender tho

lagāˆžn, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:28 (two years ago) link

and beal has been on a number of winning wizards teams fwiw, not great teams granted but i dont think thats on him, tho his recent ascension to top level scorer post dates those teams, i would certainly be interested in seeing what he could do on say the boston celtics

lagāˆžn, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:33 (two years ago) link

its funny beal always seemed like a methodical scorer who would maybe top out in the low 20s ppg, then the last few years he morphed into an unstoppable natural bucket getter, he plays with a feel for the game that he didnt seem to have earlier in his career, weird

lagāˆžn, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:40 (two years ago) link

it's definitely an interesting path and i would love to dig into his usage and shot location stuff someday. it also makes it kind of hard to say how good he is at this point and in what context....like going from nice second option on a decent team to cooking the league on a bad team to some other situation where he would presumably not be the #1 option or at least be sharing that again.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:46 (two years ago) link

every time ive watched him play during his current hulk phase hes seemed very legit, he can defend and run the offense some too, hes good imo, prob pretty underrated at this point

lagāˆžn, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:57 (two years ago) link

feel like you could play him at the 1 where he has good size pretty easily especially if you had some other creators like say the boston celtics do

lagāˆžn, Thursday, 19 August 2021 01:59 (two years ago) link

he's doubled his free throw rate over the lsat four years from 4 FTA per game to 8 FTA. he was also a 90% shooter from the line this year after being in the low 80s as recently as two years ago. i think that has a lot to do w/ it, his overall shooting numbers aren't much better tho obv the volume has increased
