rox probably still don't want to be good from an institutional standpoint so they might create a solid loser-culture that persists for a decade, hard to tell from this far out but i think they can stick the landing (of being shitty)

i'm still a bit suspicious of them trading two future firsts for a non lottery pick but i know everyone loved sengun and he looked good in summer league so maybe they nailed that one. there are several all star level euro big men who fell out of the lottery currently in the league

also it's possible jalen green ends up as the 4th or 5th best player of the top 5 picks. i heard tjarks make a good argument (before the draft) about the level that green has to reach as a score only 2 guard to match the value of guys like cade, mobley, suggs or even barnes -- if those guys hit -- who have more well rounded games in terms of contributing across the box score and on defense

that's a good and interesting point by tjarks (no surprise). i do feel a little better about green than i typically would for someone with his profile for a couple reasons--first being i can't remember another guy where so many draft people were saying with conviction that he was a lock to score at a high level, like scoring title level in the pros. he's also not giving anything away with his size so there's a chance that his defense is at least ok, and it also seems like his work ethic and potential skill development are such that "score only" would be somewhat of a disappointing outcome.

but this is a talented class and some of these other guys could certainly jump him.

yeah. i think tjarks made a good point, like if he's james harden then nothing else really matters. but if he's zach lavine that's still a good player but potentially pretty flawed. or if he's bradley beal, who may have led the league in scoring... not sure i would say brad is pretty flawed, but also we haven't seen him play for a winning team more or less ever. there isn't a huge amount of space between those levels, but also there is. harden's ability to get to the line, shoot the step back, and pass the ball is pretty insane so that might be an unfair bar

and it matters who you put around a guy with the lavine/beal skillset, like neither of those guys has been in a close to ideal situation. but taking the guy who can average 27/28 and trying to figure out the rest is reasonable.

harden--beal--lavine are on all on average prob positive outcomes for a #2 pick, which isnt to say that someone picked after green wont be better

also kind of nitpicking here but i dont think you can put harden in the score only bucket, he cld prob lead the league in assists if he felt like it, and is a good rebounder, obvs not a great defender tho

and beal has been on a number of winning wizards teams fwiw, not great teams granted but i dont think thats on him, tho his recent ascension to top level scorer post dates those teams, i would certainly be interested in seeing what he could do on say the boston celtics

its funny beal always seemed like a methodical scorer who would maybe top out in the low 20s ppg, then the last few years he morphed into an unstoppable natural bucket getter, he plays with a feel for the game that he didnt seem to have earlier in his career, weird

it's definitely an interesting path and i would love to dig into his usage and shot location stuff someday. it also makes it kind of hard to say how good he is at this point and in what context....like going from nice second option on a decent team to cooking the league on a bad team to some other situation where he would presumably not be the #1 option or at least be sharing that again.

every time ive watched him play during his current hulk phase hes seemed very legit, he can defend and run the offense some too, hes good imo, prob pretty underrated at this point

feel like you could play him at the 1 where he has good size pretty easily especially if you had some other creators like say the boston celtics do

he's doubled his free throw rate over the lsat four years from 4 FTA per game to 8 FTA. he was also a 90% shooter from the line this year after being in the low 80s as recently as two years ago. i think that has a lot to do w/ it, his overall shooting numbers aren't much better tho obv the volume has increased

reflecting upon it its fucked up that the raptors drafted scottie barnes forcing the magic to take jalen suggs, suggs deserves to be with a good org like the raps and barnes is the prototypical magic pick a huge athletic freak who doesnt really know how to play basketball, signals got crossed or something they should make a trade

there is definitely some protection here against him blowing up and commanding a lot more. i guess if jarrett allen can get 20 million bucks a healthy year of rob could get that. but i don't see much disaster potential unless he has a really significant injury.
