could def be California, though I also get a New Orleans/ Savannah feeling from the look of that highway

guided path, wheelchair accessible - botanical garden/arboretum sorta thing?

StanM, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:30 (two years ago) link

looks like a college campus to me. possibly a fairly old one (by US standards) given that brick wall. maybe pre-war.

background looks coastal? maybe even a port?

the planting looks too green for los angeles and i can't think of anywhere that nice close to a freeway in LA (mayybe USC, but that brick wall is too old for USC).

I get a convalescent home vibe, woman on left has a nametag, the two guys in the distance have identical shirt/pants color as that woman.

nickn, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:39 (two years ago) link

I wonder if they're visiting though. It would seem kind of odd for a staff person to be taking a photo of her own workplace...?

rob, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:43 (two years ago) link

the two guys are a google image stitching clone of the same guy

StanM, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:44 (two years ago) link

yes though there is a third, more distant guy who might be wearing the same shirt/pants colors

rob, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:45 (two years ago) link

ghost! disembodied head between photographer's arms

StanM, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:47 (two years ago) link

xp
I'm thinking maybe she's taking pictures to send to the older woman's family.

Art gallery also occurred to me, as there is a modern sculpture to the left of the woman in shorts.

nickn, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 18:53 (two years ago) link

Yeah plus the woman in the wheelchair is possibly holding some kind of brochure or map

on closer look, that "third guy" is not a human, could be a sculpture or I could be hallucinating

rob, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:10 (two years ago) link

I was assuming they were taking a picture of the sunrise/sunset??? Or an airplane?

a (waterface), Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:14 (two years ago) link

yeah those are all possible, or it could be the tree that's in the image we already have

rob, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:31 (two years ago) link

am I crazy for thinking that glassy building in the background is the John Hancock in Boston? I know all skyscrapers look like that lol

a (waterface), Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:43 (two years ago) link

I think it's SoCal or a similar climate, but I can't think of any elevated roadway that looks like that around here.

nickn, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 20:11 (two years ago) link

US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC?

Dinsdale, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 21:12 (two years ago) link

Google Lens'ing the pathway led toward Cal State uni and Liberty Island NYC, but no sign of this pic at either

looks like spanish moss in the tree on upper right above the head of the woman taking a picture.

that's not my post, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 22:54 (two years ago) link

upper left that is...

that's not my post, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 23:05 (two years ago) link

Jacksonville, FL!

https://goo.gl/maps/EeonkLT3PQgJLX8z6

The Spanish moss hint was helpful. I was thinking either Southeast or California, but the Spanish moss led me to focus more on the southeast.

nice!

StanM, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 02:58 (two years ago) link

my instinct was wrong.

StanM, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 05:07 (two years ago) link

nice work

a (waterface), Wednesday, 18 August 2021 11:53 (two years ago) link

ah cool. I got fixated on looking at New Orleans yesterday, and now I really want to go back

rob, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 12:57 (two years ago) link

excellent, i looked at Charleston, Savannah and Norfolk. Easy to find old brick walls and big oak trees. Couldn't find the bridge in the background.

that's not my post, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 14:42 (two years ago) link

The bridge was the biggest clue. I tried searching for highway overpass pictures from different cities. The pillars on that one are fairly distinctive. When I saw a picture of that bridge in Jacksonville I knew I was close.

Weekend City

Is that a bus on the left? Very Mitteleuropean and sparkling clean to boot. Maybe a Baltic nation?

Bach on harmonica! (Boring, Maryland), Sunday, 22 August 2021 20:23 (two years ago) link

Tram surely?

Believe me, grow a lemon tree. (ledge), Sunday, 22 August 2021 20:24 (two years ago) link

looks really familiar, tempted to say Wroclaw but don't think they would have those trams.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 22 August 2021 20:35 (two years ago) link

Lublin has trams, looks a bit like Lublin but having a hard time finding good street views.

heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:06 (two years ago) link

I guess Lublin has trolleycars, actually, but it does look like track on those cobblestones.

heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:06 (two years ago) link

Color may be off in the picture but it looks like the tram has a green section of near street level. And a red and green stripe above window level.

that's not my post, Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:27 (two years ago) link

overall that looks like austria to me. too nice for classically eastern europe.

a couple of roofs seem wrong to me for austria though: the green mansard (?) roof and the stepped gable on the yellow building, which i associate with the low countries, but wikipedia tells me can be found elsewhere https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepped_gable.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:37 (two years ago) link

Yeah I thought Netherlands maybe but now you mention Austria is possible but I’m struck by the lack of commercial signage or any signs at all.

Bach on harmonica! (Boring, Maryland), Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:42 (two years ago) link

All white people I'm still thinking former Eastern Bloc.

Bach on harmonica! (Boring, Maryland), Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:44 (two years ago) link

The colors on the tram suggest Hungary.

Bach on harmonica! (Boring, Maryland), Sunday, 22 August 2021 21:47 (two years ago) link

The colour of the trams reminds me of Augsburg in Bavaria.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Monday, 23 August 2021 20:12 (two years ago) link

I was gonna say the picture on the right is of Venice but maybe that's now irrelevant.

Back inside (alternate view)

Going to go a little early with the second image for this one

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 11:54 (two years ago) link

Turkey seems possible. The interiors look a bit rustic to be actually inside the Maxx Royal which looks very posh.

o. nate, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 14:35 (two years ago) link

..rpus in cyrillic on the bench there

koogs, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 14:48 (two years ago) link

The first picture looks like it might be inside a travel agency, so maybe the Maxx Royal plaque is indicating they have organized trips to that hotel.

o. nate, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 14:56 (two years ago) link

..rpus in cyrillic on the bench there

and .orpus on the sign behind the woman, possibly korpus which is little help.

Believe me, grow a lemon tree. (ledge), Tuesday, 24 August 2021 15:06 (two years ago) link
