I feel like the logo on the smoothie might be a clue.

Wall-mounted fan makes me think this might be a cool northern climate where air-conditioning is not common in public buildings.

The logo looks like every generic smoothie/juice bar I've ever seen

I've tried my mockup logo image search trick, no joy.

Ft. Lauderdale

Or perhaps its a very hot climate, where combination of fan and AC is required (suggested by presence of AC wall unit).

I think I found the smoothie cup. On a Nigerian shopping site, but apparently made in UAE. Not sure that helps:

Any chance of a second photo clue?

o. nate, Friday, 1 October 2021 15:23 (two years ago) link

I'm wondering if that light/dark blue logo on the mousepad is something I've seen before but I really don't know

StanM, Friday, 1 October 2021 17:16 (two years ago) link

next to that ATM sign there's something with a regular E and a fancy B but that can be anything? Exchange Bank?

StanM, Friday, 1 October 2021 17:18 (two years ago) link

holy crap! Exim Bank, Uganda?

StanM, Friday, 1 October 2021 17:28 (two years ago) link

Tanzania, too

StanM, Friday, 1 October 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

Djibouti too but I think that's all of them with this logo?

StanM, Friday, 1 October 2021 17:32 (two years ago) link

there can't be that many container ports in those three countries I would think?

StanM, Friday, 1 October 2021 17:39 (two years ago) link

I would guess the calendar is some global corporate thing not related to the city in question.

ledge, Saturday, 2 October 2021 07:13 (two years ago) link

that Exim Bank logo isn't showing up anymore - here's another one just in case

exim bank operates in Tanzania, Comoros, Djibouti and Uganda. the passports on the desk (if thats what they are) don't match any of these countries.

the calendar being in french/english also doesnt match with the official languages of any of the four countries.

there are atm location maps for a couple of the countries but the lack of street view or any photos at all really makes it hard to pin down the exact one. you can cross reference the atm map against container port locations but none seem to match the calendar.

i would guess dar es salaam.

What an assist what a finish.

nashwan, Saturday, 2 October 2021 11:53 (two years ago) link

ooh, and we're in a Hertz car rental building - do you have to leave your passport when you rent a car?

StanM, Saturday, 2 October 2021 11:53 (two years ago) link

Man! So close! I clicked the 3 other pictures in Djibouti city because I was looking for the harbour/port but didn't click the airport one.

StanM, Saturday, 2 October 2021 11:57 (two years ago) link

Good work, and many assists on this one I think! I'm glad I didn't have to do second photo as it was very close by that point. I love how when you list out all the clues the answer is right there (felt the same about Novosibirsk too, I'd kind of already described it without realising)

have looked for African phone banking instruction videos but no dice

StanM, Sunday, 3 October 2021 10:22 (two years ago) link

There seems to be a general consensus amongst visitors to Djibouti International Airport that it is the dirtiest international airport in the world. Or at least that the toilets are the dirtiest toilets in an international airport in the world.

First one I've gotten, and it was indeed the gate and the Aldi that did it!

wmlynch, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 02:50 (two years ago) link

I was going to crop it at just "The Lads" originally

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 03:02 (two years ago) link

I couldn't read the "Ha" but "Way the Lads" was enough.

wmlynch, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 03:11 (two years ago) link

I can't even read that now I know what it is - you DO mean that graffiti on the right, right?

StanM, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 05:53 (two years ago) link

great work. the burnt building has indeed been demolished, as you can see on street view if you go down the road beside it ('back n terrace').
