No wait. The Santana one has to be funny no matter what.

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Jordan, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

thank you steve vai and carlos santana.

Clay, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

It does feel like musician jokes.

Jordan, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Not for musicians only by any means. It's funny to me, and I don't play anything at all. Of course, I saw Derek Bailey at Tonic.

unperson, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:18 (sixteen years ago) link

The first one I watched, I couldn't tell if somebody had rerecorded the part or just ran it through some kind of anti-autotuner or maybe it was the actual recovered part from the original gig that had later been overdubbed/tweaked/buried in the mix to sound better. Like one of those Linda Macca backing vocals.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:20 (sixteen years ago) link

someone should do a reverse "Jandek Shreds"

sexyDancer, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Agreed. And my playing makes Mt. Johnny sound like Steve Fucking Vai!

ROFFFFFLE

Maybe it is for musicians. The "Iron Man" riff from EVH hit me hard since that's one of the few songs I know how to play on the guitar.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:30 (sixteen years ago) link

For the crowd to go wild at that and go "Oh, yeah,Iron Man!", that's funny.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:31 (sixteen years ago) link

The trumpet lady is pretty amazing.

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I have never seen any of these and am so gonna watch them tonight, fuck a laundry.

Jon Lewis, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:33 (sixteen years ago) link

i believe you can probably get your laundry done and watch these as well

chaki, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Milton Parker, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link

These videos are the funniest thing ever. And I'm not a musician. I don't know, some people just don't get it, but that's ok, explaining jokes never works anyway.

Anybody know who this StSanders guy is? He must be a pretty good guitarist to be able to pull this off, no?

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:11 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah i don't dig zappa.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Not really, but I did go to high school with a guy who was obsessed with sweet guitar playing

mh, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

J0hn D., Monday, 22 October 2007 21:14 (sixteen years ago) link

"people who laugh at stuff I don't get must have terrible taste"

J0hn D., Monday, 22 October 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

i cop to liking all kinds of dorked out guitar mag shit when i was little and learning how to play. shrapnel records shit.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:21 (sixteen years ago) link

I just started a King Crimson poll, for Christ's sake, but I draw the line at Zappa. It's a thick line.

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:22 (sixteen years ago) link

It just occurred to me that "Fripp shreds" would be rather amazing.

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:24 (sixteen years ago) link

i love zappa.

chaki, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:25 (sixteen years ago) link

LaMonte's logic is really breaking down

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:10 (sixteen years ago) link

my theory is that you have to be a musician to appreciate the genius of these videos.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 22 October 2007 23:41 (sixteen years ago) link

My theory is that you have to be a crap musician.

But they're funny.

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 00:10 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe this is only funny to musicians? people who have a molecule of knowledge about how music is made?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 00:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Although it is pretty retarded that the guy put a cowbell sound on the scraper in the Santana video. If that was intentional, it doesn;t follow the theme of his other videos.
