I've got a kid doing his GCSEs (16 in 2 months) and it blows my mind every day. I believe this knowledge is supposed to 'ground me' but nope, I find myself floating freer and further from reality every day.

I have friends whomst are roughly my age who I know through the music scene who are grandparents. That's mindboggling

Yeah, one of my friends has just become a grandmother at 45. Wtf.

I'm a year older than the biological grandmother of my adopted son.

Most of my friends/peer group didn't have kids until well into their 30s, so it's weird that my neighbors had kids in their very early 20s (unusual for all the academics I know) and are younger than me with one of their kids off to college already. They're going to be 40 year old empty-nesters in a year or two which blows my mind because my son wasn't born until I was 40.

joygoat, Friday, 10 December 2021 20:17 (two years ago) link

I'm coming up on 25 years in the same apartment ... friend from college posted about the demise of their long-owned toaster oven, and I realized that I had the same model of toaster oven and it is actually older than their now deceased toaster oven. I have adult friends who are younger than my toaster oven.

I am 47 now and will take hot baths to reduce stiffness and aches in my knees. I think my mom started having arthritis in her knees when she was approximately my age, but when my mom was my age, I was away at college, so I don't know this for a fact.

sarahell, Sunday, 12 December 2021 03:05 (two years ago) link

* I purchased this toaster oven around the time I moved into this apartment

One of the many things I appreciate about the Peloton app (the classes, not the bike) is how much they emphasize stretching. Religiously.

barely BARELY into the next leg of my shoulder surgery recovery. Four weeks 24/7 in a brace and six in a sling, FUCK YOU. I am cheating on this last week and hoping it doesn't bite me in the ass but hey i work from home. Will see what my new PT guy tells me tomorrow. Waking up four times a night represents good sleep at this point.

which variety of energetic dog or puppy would this be? I post this as my 3 year old vgb is sat at other side of kitchen waiting for his walk in a calm + composed manner that t'wasn't always thus.

Collie mix (yet to ascertain whether alsatian or doberman somewhere in there and almost afraid to find out) a year and a bit old

She's relatively well behaved but she wants walking and plenty of it

who will be the last ilxor standing in this thread

When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 19 December 2021 00:05 (two years ago) link

oh speaking of last ilxor standing -- does anyone have any recommendations for insoles?

sarahell, Sunday, 19 December 2021 01:59 (two years ago) link

Insoles - very personal, depends on your feet. Zappos let’s you return them for free so you can try out a few styles. Or maybe try them in a store for runners.

that's not my post, Sunday, 19 December 2021 02:30 (two years ago) link

Custom orthotics, if your insurance covers them

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Sunday, 19 December 2021 02:39 (two years ago) link

yeah, though mine are fucking hurting as i'm breaking them in.

If the main problem is your having high arches that complain about the minimal arch support in the insoles that shoe manufacturers provide, you can try Superfeet 'green' insoles and see if they do the trick. No guarantee from me, just that I had success with this approach.

Finally got my hair cut after growing it for two years since the pandemic and while I like the haircut, I feel I look visibly more middle aged than last time it was this short

my pinched nerve got very painful as I tried to sleep and I got one hour of sleep. I got up to take a warm shower and intense pain started radiating down my left arm after standing up, and it wasn't getting any better, even in the shower. started hyperventilating until that stopped and became more of a dull ache in my back again.

usually by now it's back to normal, and I couldn't call out thanks to the skeleton crew at work today (i've been busier than usual), so tomorrow perhaps the ortho it is.

I've been using (non custom) orthotics for several years but didn't prevent Achilles tendonitis. Bound to open being that I hike 800-1000 miles per year and play basketball 2-3x/week. Just glad it doesn't stop me from doing those things. Yet.

Actually just got some inserts specifically for heel problems. And some straps to go around Achilles. Will test them both out on new years hike.
