the "POTUS Trump NFT Collection" is ... objectively hideous, a spinning 3d plaque with spinning stars, a 3d flag, protruding text, and on the reverse, a 45 set atop a background of 45s, some of them upside-down, plus a tiny photo that's probably Trump but can you really tell? pic.twitter.com/ijClu9NTWm— Stuart A. The two prosecutors leading the Manhattan district attorney’s investigation into former President Donald J. Trump and his business practices abruptly resigned on Wednesday amid a monthlong pause in their presentation of evidence to a grand jury, according to people with knowledge of the matter, throwing the future of the high-stakes inquiry into serious doubt.
The prosecutors, Carey R. Dunne and Mark F. Pomerantz, submitted their resignations after the new Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, indicated to them that he had doubts about moving forward with a case against Mr. Trump, the people said.
Mr. Pomerantz confirmed in a brief interview that he had resigned, but declined to elaborate. Mr. Dunne declined to comment.
Good old fashioned bribery? His threats still carry weight in NYC? They really had nothing? Who knows. The crowing about this will be insufferable.

My reading is that the two prosecutors actually want to pursue it, but this new DA is a wet blanket

I am very obviously biased because not only do I know the Manhattan DA from college but he also might be my distant cousin, but there was more to what happened to the case than just "the Manhattan DA didn't want to pursue it":
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/05/nyregion/trump-investigation-manhattan-da-alvin-bragg.html
Mr. Bragg was not the only one to question the strength of the case, the interviews show. Late last year, three career prosecutors in the district attorney’s office opted to leave the investigation, uncomfortable with the speed at which it was proceeding and with what they maintained were gaps in the evidence. The tension spilled into the new administration, with some career prosecutors raising concerns directly to the new district attorney’s team.Mr. Bragg, whose office is conducting the investigation along with lawyers working for New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, had not taken issue with Mr. Dunne and Mr. Pomerantz presenting evidence to the grand jury in his first days as district attorney. But as the weeks passed, he developed concerns about the challenge of showing Mr. Trump’s intent — a requirement for proving that he criminally falsified his business records — and about the risks of relying on the former president’s onetime fixer, Michael D. Cohen, as a key witness.

the risks of relying on the former president’s onetime fixer, Michael D. Cohen, as a key witness.
This is only a risk if you consider the possibility of **gasp** losing a high-profile case as a greater risk than than letting gross criminal misconduct, for which you have plentiful evidence, go unchallenged in court.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 March 2022 20:43 (two years ago) link
I think if you stopped to process what you were reading before acting like a sanctimonious prick, you would have realized that the assertion here is that proving gross criminal misconduct hinged largely on the testimony of one witness without solid corroborating evidence due to Trump's penchant for avoiding email communication
― castanuts (DJP), Tuesday, 8 March 2022 21:02 (two years ago) link
Yeah if it's not there and nobody flips, *shrug* -- seems like it IS there for Weisselberg, which is why he's hunkering down and taking the hit.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 March 2022 21:08 (two years ago) link
Not disagreeing with your take DJP and I gave money to Bragg’s campaign after you posted about him originally, but there is definitely a difference between prosecutors willingness prosecute a drug case without overwhelming evidence and a white collar case without overwhelming evidence. In the latter, there has been a real aversion the last 10-15 years to even the possibility of losing a high profile case, which has not been helpful.
