It should be publicly owned but that's never going to happen unless communism.
In principle, I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.— jack⚡️ (@jack) April 26, 2022

Maybe something has changed but I cannot for the life of me understand people reasoning that Twitter is an essential platform. Twitter isn’t a platform. It’s a website. It has been proved time and time again that people, on the web, will readily move on and the stickiness (or even monopolization) Berkman researcher after Berkman researcher claims to exist, doesn’t.

Maybe not. 😂
i need to see this attempted, as a fan of engineering disasters
I am curious too. However, everyone I know at Tesla and SpaceX agrees that Musk is a great leader for engineering companies because he is unorganized, has no idea what is going on in engineering, and is way too occupied with other things (i.e., himself) to think about any issue deeply and get invested. Meanwhile, Zuck is still submitting pull requests.

Yeah, we haven't seen a real friendster->myspace->facebook churn in years, although outside the US, other sites have dominance (especially in Russia/China)
when it comes to valuation, twitter's a user base, but there isn't an upstart that has made significant inroads into peeling off even a single demographic/group from that user base in a long time. despite all of the right-wing attempts, they've only created small user bases that spend most of their time complaining about what's going on on twitter
