Every time I scroll reddit, there is either a fat man playing guitar LIVE or a skinny mustachioed man twiddling knobs LIVE. I dread the morning because i know i will open reddit and always find one of these two men. Which will it be tomorrow? Fat fractional tone bend man? Or skinny knob turning fella with text "BRITTLEBABY" in the footer? Where are the fucking slack channels that will solve this problem for me!? I can handle any posted text on this messageboard.

Those LIVE reddit posts default as muted, but I have to be sure that they aren't actually telling me the future! What if guitar man isn't plugged in? What if the Really Good Posts about handling Covid are being broadcast LIVE and I am missing them because I shy away from the sight of a bit pentatonic noodling. Surely I have to CHECK?!

The slack people have gotten upset about was announced and advertised on ilx lots and lots of times.

It doesn't have secret membership requirements, anybody can sign up.

It isn't a googleable place of permanent record.

99% of it is people talking about positive stuff they enjoy and supporting each other thru covid and other shit

Anybody who's come along has been welcomed. Whether they chose to stay welcomed has been on them, far as I can tell

One difference to ilx maybe is people generally talk to each other as people and not as an audience for shtick

There is one channel on the slack where some of the members including me complain and laugh and take the piss out of ilx posters and posts that grind our gears

God knows how many other places on the internet or in real life people do same

If people genuinely feel that ilx would be improved by everybody straight calling everybody else on their bullshit all the time, well, I think we tried that and I think the consensus was it wasn't so great

If people genuinely think nobody should ever chat shit about a person, a persona, or a post they think is mean or asinine then great, god speed, I do not know how you wanna police that

Most people I find are better for knowing but sometimes there are limits and maybe for all of us we have people who are better for avoiding

No, i know. I think you are great btw, and I am certainly not above chatting shit about people. But I hope you can eventually see how what you described seems like a bad idea. I think it'd be better kept private if anywhere tbh. But I also get that there's a side of ilx that's more irl close. And it all makes more sense and seems less nefarious in that context.

I think we've always wavered about whether it's a good idea or not. Lot of slackers don't engage at all with it. I don't think it's much different to what happened in the old AIM era but anyway, I'm sad that other people feel hurt. While I'm doing full honesty I have to say I'm sad and a bit annoyed that one or two people felt the need to stir shit up by fussing about those separate conversations on ilx over and over

More than one, I think? Me and pinefox should start our own board where we can talk about stuff on the internet and elsewhere that everyone else knows about but we've never heard of (wtf is Slack?)

This is a bit disingenuous. The existence of an ilxor Slack will come as a surprise to some, it was to me. I’m still not sure how to get in, or if the address has been made public and clear. I am not exactly sure the way it has been handled fosters a feeling of inclusion.

And it’s different than say the ilxor fantasy baseball yahoo group in that it seems that users and posts are being actively discussed on the slack. It’s never a nice feeling to learn that you have been discussed by a group without your knowledge, Neanderthal is absolutely right to react the way he is.
