There is one channel on the slack where some of the members including me complain and laugh and take the piss out of ilx posters and posts that grind our gears

God knows how many other places on the internet or in real life people do same

i would hope that the number of people who post on a message board dedicated to privately complaining about posts on another plain-text message board (which itself contains multiple threads and entire boards dedicated to such) is small. also hope that they seek help

you should close the archives though, especially if, for instance, on that thread you are clowning about that person using information not derived from ilx but from more private areas of the internet

I am a shocking gossip irl but this isn't rl so I've never done it on here.

after searching myself like the narcissist i am the only thing i had a problem with is people talking about my personal life using information gleaned from my private instagram. i already knew they thought i was tedious and posted like i was on a "rumspringa." that is so whatever -- but don't bring my family into it. i'm not trying to be obnoxious, but really i think it would be best if the ilx sniping thread on slack was made private.

people can have their burn book but don't leave it open. it's a matter of etiquette.

it's not dedicated to privately complaining about ilx posts ... unless all of the conversations about gardening and cats is really a very secret complex code that is only available to an elite few. It sucks that people have that impression. The ratio of meta complaining is probably smaller than on ilx itself.

There is nowhere dedicated to complaining about ilx but there is a slack that was formed at the start of the pandemic by ilxors. There is also a discord and a private Facebook group just called ILX; I know of one Facebook messenger chat but there may be others; bitd there were aim chatz aiui; there are also FAPs and DMs and probably dozens of other ilx related backchannels

In every single one of these a small percentage of time will be spent talking about the message board ppl have in common, which posters you like & which send you up the wall (it’s almost never unanimous)

This is not really the issue

a specific ilxor decided to act out a grudge against another ilxor by repeatedly drawing negative attention to the slack in such a way that a third ilxor (entirely unrelated to the beef in question) was drawn to look and got badly hurt

the specific ilxor exactly wanted something like this to happen and didn't give a tiny fvck abt the consequences to many others (including the third ilxor)

there are several issues

I would not conflate the ILX Slack that is named "ILX" with the numerous private channels of communication out there.

i think i only noticed a few of the "negative attention" posts and probably wasn't reading the threads that formed the pattern for this ... but I remembered the slack being started as a "stay sane during covid" thing, and I never thought of it as a secret borad, probably because i haven't been paying attention?

Where do you Slack champions find the time to not only write a ton of posts but also write on the other's posters ton of posts? The absolute misery of this is astounding. It's just pitiful at this point.

Well ito the non “locked down” nature of the slack there is sort of a comedy of errors aspect there in that normally slack messages disappear after a certain point so everyone was posting on the understanding that this was all ephemeral, and it just so happened that this latest fuckery took place during a 1-month free trial of slack premium, literally the only time the archives will be searchable

ppl also, I think understandably, were posting with the assumption that after 2 years anyone who wanted to take part would have joined and nobody would be cunty enough to repeatedly draw their attention to it

So I don’t think it’s that different to the many other channels where ppl are talking about ppl

also depends on context. like in this comment thread people were very clearly making fun of me while prying on developments in my personal life. it wasn't just like "oh so and so is _______, good for him" or whatever.

i don't know what "KM is the real problem for starting this" is that supposed to do for the people who are going into chat and finding these things, or people who are worried about what's been said about them. the channel still contains what it contains. if this was truly a public server that anyone could've joined then what's happening now would've happened eventually. not trying to drag this on longer it just sounds like such a deflection when people are being hurt by this

Why would it have happened eventually? Like if the argument is “someone else would have pointed ppl towards stuff they might find hurtful out of malice” it would be on that someone else

I have limited mod powers and can't delete posts to this thread. I also don't want to potentially abuse my lowly subboard mod authority by being overly punitive to what some ilxors might feel is an okay discussion.

My mod powers do allow me to threadban posters from this thread ... so anyone seriously posting about the slack / off-board criticism of other ilxors on this thread will get a yellow card and then a thread ban

I am also posting as me for the sake of transparency and seriousness
