the developers are trying to find elden ring

we are all trying to find it

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 29 March 2022 14:52 (two years ago) link

nintendo: the release date of zelda has been pushed back while we work diligently to make link more depressed

lag∞n, Tuesday, 29 March 2022 14:54 (two years ago) link

elden ring is the sourpuss larry bird to zelda's affable magic johnson in this duel. they should lean into it.

I can't imagine Switch Sports being a better party game than Shredder's Revenge

Herby Dutch Baby (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 17 June 2022 21:08 (one year ago) link

haven't played either, but having played the predecessors of each, i would guess it very much depends on who is attending the party. Shredders revenge = people who enjoyed playing old beat em ups in the arcade, Switch Sports = everyone who is willing to play a game

Bruce Stingbean (Karl Malone), Friday, 17 June 2022 22:12 (one year ago) link

i say all this hypothetically, as someone who attended a party about 24 years ago

Bruce Stingbean (Karl Malone), Friday, 17 June 2022 22:13 (one year ago) link

party games arent really played at parties right it just means there are more than two people playing a game

lag∞n, Friday, 17 June 2022 22:52 (one year ago) link

I've been playing my Switch for the first time in months, and I know it's partly because the games aren't huge, but it's so snappy, the UI is great, and the pro controller's battery rules.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 17 June 2022 23:10 (one year ago) link

I got Shredder’s Revenge on thee Switch and am hoping to have some buds get in on it this weekend. Played through it last night then did a few online matches. It’s cool that 6 players is an option but in practice it’s just kinda pure chaos and you spend half the time trying to find where you are.

Great presentation, but mechanically seems sloppier and a lil less engaging than Streets of Rage 4 (same publisher). Still a good time.

circa1916, Saturday, 18 June 2022 03:16 (one year ago) link

I had no idea it had online multi, I might have to rustle up some buds

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Saturday, 18 June 2022 21:53 (one year ago) link

apparently there's a new Pocky & Rocky coming out in a few days??

aegis philbin (crüt), Tuesday, 21 June 2022 00:22 (one year ago) link

that looked good from the preview stuff i saw. mix of remade original stages and new ones

ciderpress, Tuesday, 21 June 2022 00:35 (one year ago) link

Oh yeah, I got the Japanese version of that (supports English) a few months ago. It's great!

Evan, Tuesday, 21 June 2022 02:35 (one year ago) link

Been grinding out Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Great stuff, catnip for Three Houses fans, and it's been a good while since I sat down and enjoyed a meaty single player campaign. Forgot how addictive the Musou formula can be.

Nhex, Monday, 8 August 2022 19:31 (one year ago) link

Yeah I got my eye on Cult of the Lamb...

Evan, Monday, 8 August 2022 19:51 (one year ago) link

eshop has a sale on a bunch of multiplayer games rn - at least in UK. I got drink more glurp for £1.03!! it's a fairly quick and goofy pass-the-pad physics game, good fun for a few rounds with a small group.

Nintendo Direct tomorrow, unless you are in the UK

ciderpress, Monday, 12 September 2022 15:26 (one year ago) link

Maybe they will add some old levels to Mario Kart, new characters to Smash Bros., and announce that they are only a couple of years out from Zelda 2 and Metroid Prime 4.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 12 September 2022 15:58 (one year ago) link

Splatoon 3 just sold 3.5 million in three days in Japan, biggest game launch there ever.
bigger than Pokemon, Dragon Quest, FF7. that's kind of a big deal, no?

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 12 September 2022 16:05 (one year ago) link

I bought the previous splatoon a while back and could never get used to the damn controls.

Jeff, Monday, 12 September 2022 16:18 (one year ago) link

my kids were so hyped for that, they'd been talking about it for like the past year
i played a little of the new one, it seems exactly like splatoon 2? like "new" characters and levels but no appreciable difference in gameplay or graphics or anything

na (NA), Monday, 12 September 2022 16:19 (one year ago) link

i also struggle with the controls, i end up mostly using the right joystick to look around instead of tilting the controller

na (NA), Monday, 12 September 2022 16:20 (one year ago) link

xp yeah thats enormous sales for japan. the switch animal crossing already shattered the previous record and this shattered it again

ciderpress, Monday, 12 September 2022 16:45 (one year ago) link

this describes pretty much every video game sequel within the same console generation

ciderpress, Monday, 12 September 2022 16:53 (one year ago) link

Super Mario Bros to SMB3 was a notable leap. But yeah, sequels in the same console generation are usually subtitled “very similar to what you already like; 3/4 of the way to the inevitable reboot”

Karl Malone, Monday, 12 September 2022 17:01 (one year ago) link

But damn, people must be craving some more of what they like about splatoon! This is very petty or me but i can’t stand the character style of splatoon. I don’t want to be any of these characters or look at them

Karl Malone, Monday, 12 September 2022 17:02 (one year ago) link

i'm not a huge fan of the char designs/fashion either but the game is absurdly fun once you master the movement (i have not bought 3 though nor will i for a bit)

New Zelda title as ironic commentary

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 14:51 (one year ago) link

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 14:51 (one year ago) link

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 14:53 (one year ago) link

I'm officially excited about (checks notes) one thing announced, and it rhymes with Griselda.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 14:55 (one year ago) link

lots of stuff I liked, but it was pretty much all 3rd parties outside of a Pikmin logo and a v short Zelda trailer.
Nintendo's first party studios MIA, I guess they are working on content for the next systems launch?

Sigh. I feel like half my time with the Switch has been spent waiting for what comes next, but at this point I think I've finally realized that with few exceptions, whatever it is that Nintendo does best may just be not for me. I loved Breath and we as a family got a lot out of Mario Kart, but both of those were ports from the previous system. I loved the Ori games, but they were Microsoft games that somehow made it to Nintendo. Other than that, my fave indies (Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Hades) have been available on all systems. Oh well.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 15:37 (one year ago) link

im studying the trailer like the zapruder film, stuff weve seen before floating castle, sky islands, no towers or shrines, links weird arms, link doesnt have any of his old gear, time reversing mechanic maybe thing; new stuff link has guardian shotgun shell looking things hanging from his belt, big green design on a bluff, wooden shield, stone axe, airplane!

lag∞n, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 15:39 (one year ago) link

his gear looks pretty rudimentary feel like this could be the distant past, relative to botw, or some sort of time mixing situation cld be going on, the castle is there but its behaving strangely
