That truck looks like a work truck (tool boxes, spray cans) rather than a moving truck.

The cars seems a bit older than I would expect in a middle class city area, so maybe outside a city in a rural area. Also, the houses are pretty modest for a "view" area.

Could be the hilly south too (Appalachia).

looks like the "back" of those houses--wonder what they are all facing? does look like a steep drop off

Pittsburgh somewhere??? That looks like a Penna plate

a (waterface), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 12:11 (one year ago) link

Definitely looks like a steep drop, hillside of some sort

That looks like a Penna plate

Aren't the bands wrong though? The blue and yellow look too thick, take up too much space

yeah you're right--those are also white letters which at a quick glance it looks like PA has blue letters

a (waterface), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 13:11 (one year ago) link

but it looks like maybe no states have white letters?

a (waterface), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 13:12 (one year ago) link

poking around Mt Washington areas of Pittsburgh and I feel like I'm close

a (waterface), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 14:47 (one year ago) link

Those houses don't look emotional enough to be Pittsburgh houses

I have more helpful pictures when you are ready. It seems google did the neighborhood on very different days.

AFAIK, Pennsylvania is the only state to use that color scheme in its license plates.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 21:32 (one year ago) link

Those roofs are weird looking.

Look closely, that is all. (doo dah), Thursday, 28 July 2022 01:28 (one year ago) link

Agree that the houses/cars look a bit basic and give the impression it's not a particularly well off area.

I'm not convinced it's even in the US.

Hideous Lump, Thursday, 28 July 2022 04:17 (one year ago) link

I thought the trees might help but if you're high up a mountain that could be harder again. The not-too-modern feel of it all is making me think Costa Rica maybe? no idea though

StanM, Thursday, 28 July 2022 06:18 (one year ago) link

Puerto, not Costa

StanM, Thursday, 28 July 2022 06:19 (one year ago) link

Never been to Puerto Rico but not really getting a Caribbean island vibe from that pic. Still thinking it's somewhere a bit cold and damp in mainland USA

I can see clearly now the rain is gone,
I can see all the obstacles in my way,
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind…

404 error. LOL. This is the quality I bring people. Try again.

yeah, no longer thinking Puerto Rico now. Canada/North America yes

StanM, Thursday, 28 July 2022 15:43 (one year ago) link

Somewhere near a lake, I see two boats.

nickn, Thursday, 28 July 2022 16:01 (one year ago) link

Somewhere in Alaska maybe.

Look closely, that is all. (doo dah), Thursday, 28 July 2022 16:08 (one year ago) link

looks like a lake or river in the distance in shot 2?

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 17:27 (one year ago) link

or maybe just fog

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 17:27 (one year ago) link

I poked around Juneau for a bit the other day, it did look right for a few reasons but I couldn't find the spot

rob, Thursday, 28 July 2022 17:30 (one year ago) link

The bumpy little hills on the other side of the bay/sound are pretty distinctive

Christmas in Davenport (cherry blossom), Thursday, 28 July 2022 17:52 (one year ago) link

alaska has yellow license plates which we see in pic 2 but not on the sedan or the truck in pic 1, what are the chances. seems like the least likely state to have 2 out of state vehicles in one place (from 2 different states)

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:02 (one year ago) link

i guess if the sedan is a BC plate then that improves the odds a little

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:04 (one year ago) link

wait there's a pic 2?

nice work!

rob, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:10 (one year ago) link

Great work, Ciderpress. I didn’t really wander far from picture 1. If for some reason it was going to carry on longer there are many street view pics with a massive cruise liner in the port.

horizontal, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:12 (one year ago) link

good one!

StanM, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:19 (one year ago) link

bravo! how did you get to it?

Christmas in Davenport (cherry blossom), Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:35 (one year ago) link

i followed my previous train of thought of 'white plates in alaska -> might be BC plates -> alaska near BC' and then was lucky enough to drop the streetview guy right on the same block as pic #2 when i checked that town

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 19:04 (one year ago) link

props to the people who identified it as alaska though, i was looking in oregon before that

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 19:05 (one year ago) link

damn, all those posts on blue white yellow plates earlier and somehow missed that one

Britain, but which part?

StanM, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 07:15 (one year ago) link

is there a (maybe even non-horizontal) football pitch behind that building?

StanM, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 08:10 (one year ago) link

could be Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, up to the Scottish Borders. Be tough to narrow down

ignore the blue line (or something), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 09:42 (one year ago) link

Is it a city or is it a town?

ignore the blue line (or something), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 12:02 (one year ago) link

haven't got a clue. There are a lot of very nice landscapes in Britain though. Well done. :)

StanM, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:07 (one year ago) link

yeah that could be anywhere north of derbyshire.
