I know it’s fanservicey but I really would like to see what happened to Huell. And Bill Burrs character for that matter

frogbs, Friday, 29 July 2022 01:32 (one year ago) link

he went on to rip on people from Philly

I think we all want more Huell!

mh, Friday, 29 July 2022 15:30 (one year ago) link

Could be like Walt reeling Jesse's two stoner buddies back in once again? Huell doing a final gig for Saul-Gene? Although the revenge scenario is a compelling read!

dow, Friday, 29 July 2022 17:42 (one year ago) link

Skinny Pete and Badger? Hell yeah

mh, Friday, 29 July 2022 18:17 (one year ago) link

Getting tired of capers. At least we got to hear Bob sing.

Will greed be his downfall? Or an old lady watching cat videos? Tune in next week!

Are U down with the BVM (Boring, Maryland), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 02:45 (one year ago) link

Tired of the capers too, but 1) nice ending to the episode, and 2) enjoyed the BB stuff, even though I know it wasn't anything special--that's just how much I like BB. (At this point, and especially the way this season has gone, I'm the rare person left who prefers BB.) I loved how they join Walt and Jesse mid-argument, sniping at each other like they always did.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 02:50 (one year ago) link

Liked the ending too, but did no rich guys who go out to bars to get drunk and show off, and then go be home alone, apparently living alone, have home alarm systems, at least cameras, in 2010? Or is that just innocence of Omaha? I couldn't really make out a lot of the Walt and Jesse lines too well, voices seemed odd. I still prefer BB, considering tedious patches of BCS Seasons 5 & 6, but before that t was more frequently amazing, and overall still pretty watchable (most series don't end all that well, anyway, BB and Mad Men being satisfying exceptions).

Ex-secretary is housekeeper or once-a-week clean up woman for those bozos?

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 03:12 (one year ago) link

Property manager for the apt. complex, I assumed.

I've got to believe there will be one more Kim appearance after tonight's reference.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 03:28 (one year ago) link

Although, I just remembered his tantrum at the phone booth, which we couldn't hear--that meant something.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 03:29 (one year ago) link

The last straw, after finding out all that other stuff from ex-secretary. Screw it, he's goin' back in.

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 03:48 (one year ago) link

Elderly Jesse was hilarious.

Are U down with the BVM (Boring, Maryland), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 05:20 (one year ago) link

Yeah elderly Jesse really broke the immersion on those scenes lol. As far as fan-service goes, I thought it was well done and purposeful

hrep (H.P), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 12:50 (one year ago) link

I guess I'm forgetting the timeline, does Saul actually recruit Walt & Jesse for Gus? I just remember he sends them to Los Pollos Hermanos, I don't recall him approaching him outside of the office

for me the thing with Jesse is his voice sounds totally different now. still I'm glad they did it, cool scene

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 14:01 (one year ago) link

due to some mishaps on my end, I didn't get the first ten minutes last night

just watched those to catch up. good to know Huell's back in New Orleans

mh, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 15:01 (one year ago) link

i liked the episode, but it also bums me out that we didn't have more mike & saul buddy hijinx

just laughed imagining the noise Mike would make if you implied that he and Saul were buddies

mh, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 15:07 (one year ago) link

what was the purpose of the dog?

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 15:08 (one year ago) link

I figured the dog was there to sound the alert if anyone else approached or if the mark started stirring from their drugged slumber

I think so, yes. The thing I couldn't remember was why Saul was about to be buried alive, and who was going to do it. That's the part where (in BB) Saul says "Did Lalo send you?"--but I can't remember the rest.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:15 (one year ago) link

this is when Badger gets caught, he gets Saul as a lawyer who advises him to flip. so Jesse and Walt kidnap him, not planning to kill him but rather to threaten him with a bad time. iirc Saul has a buddy who loves going to jail so they pay him $100k or whatever to bust a fake Walter White.

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:21 (one year ago) link

The rendezvous at the park bench...I think I remember now.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:22 (one year ago) link

Don't remember that at all! Also: buried alive, wha??

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:24 (one year ago) link

Anyone know offhand what BB season / ep dovetails with this BCS ep?

calstars, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:26 (one year ago) link

season 2, episode 8 - called better call saul

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:32 (one year ago) link

one thing I forget is how Saul sets up that phone call with Francesca - iirc it's mentioned as he's shoveling cash into a duffel bag after everything went down in BB, but how does he get that $30k in the water pipe? did he really pay her that much just to say "yeah the cops are still on your tail"?

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:34 (one year ago) link

season 2, episode 8 - called better call saul

OHHHH

pretty cool that this one is named “breaking bad”

calstars, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:40 (one year ago) link

I might watch that BB ep just for some nostalgia

calstars, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 16:56 (one year ago) link

it's one of the best episodes of the series, iirc

That is great symmetry--I'd forgotten about the BCS episode title.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 17:17 (one year ago) link

Season 2, Episode 8: did not recall that it took Walt & Jessie so long to meet The Chicken Man!

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 17:50 (one year ago) link

the chicken man doesn't show up for a couple more episodes, and mike doesn't show up until the season 2 finale

Wow.
This Variety piece is mostly about laying out all the Walt & Jessie stuff, which to me wasn't so clear. Don't get the basic point of redux, other than fan service, but maybe will prove more significant. Although of course, we do see Saul not taking Mike's advice, going to the Science Fair/Gene going into the cancer guy's house, loudly breaking glass.

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:32 (one year ago) link

I think Gene going hard at cancer guy is subconscious revenge against Walt for blowing up his life.

Sounds right! Plus frustration with Kim & others from past, everyone and everything going against his wishes (Saul like Walt in that regard, though Walt was, under the underdog cancer workadaddy chem teacher persona, ALWAYS like that, as we gradually learn in BB)

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:43 (one year ago) link

also now this henchman in his present going against---nip it in the bud!

dow, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:45 (one year ago) link

Excellent theory, WmC.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:46 (one year ago) link

It didn't seem very deeply veiled!

Not giving this guy a pass just because he had cancer. Hmm, sounds like Saul might be harboring some feelings about someone who was capable and had cancer. I wonder..

mh, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:47 (one year ago) link

Not giving the guy a pass, sure. Doing stupid shit and deciding to go in on his own? Stupid tunnel vision due to his grudges.

Which, ironically, was how Walt did shit all the time

mh, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:48 (one year ago) link

This ep ruled imo, fully in bcs>bb camp but I honestly can’t believe how good this final stretch has been

If the only saul stuff from this run of gene eps turns out to be the stuff in this ep from around the bcs ep of bb that is perfect. Mike scene felt ever so slightly off and I would have liked his last scene to have been with nachos dad correctly saying that he is entirely as self-deluding as Walter

I’m really thinking no Kim now either. Making the show more episodic in its last few episodes than it’s maybe ever been is a beautiful decision but also newsflash, as some ppl were still saying in 2010: this entire universe is built from (increasingly sad) capers

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:51 (one year ago) link

Saul's absolutely delusional if he even for a moment thought that Kim would want to hear from him. I can picture what she'd sound like calling Francesca and asking if Saul was dead, just a heartbreaking off-screen thing.

I liked how that played out, leaving us out of the conversation when he made the poor choice to call her, and then freaking out.

mh, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 20:00 (one year ago) link

I did read an interview with one of the showrunners saying you'll see what that conversation was about later. I thought the same though, you don't really need to know

he also said Mark Proksch's character wound up running the laser tag, but there wasn't a way to really show that

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 20:21 (one year ago) link

Stupid tunnel vision due to his grudges. Which, ironically, was how Walt did shit all the time

Makes this episode's title beyond perfect.
