Britain, but which part?

StanM, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 07:15 (one year ago) link

is there a (maybe even non-horizontal) football pitch behind that building?

StanM, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 08:10 (one year ago) link

could be Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, up to the Scottish Borders. Be tough to narrow down

ignore the blue line (or something), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 09:42 (one year ago) link

Is it a city or is it a town?

ignore the blue line (or something), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 12:02 (one year ago) link

haven't got a clue. There are a lot of very nice landscapes in Britain though. Well done. :)

StanM, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:07 (one year ago) link

yeah that could be anywhere north of derbyshire.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:10 (one year ago) link

looks like some sort of abandoned facility behind there whatever it is, or else seasonal (fairgrounds?)

ciderpress, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:53 (one year ago) link

certainly has a football ground type vibe to it

Ste, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 21:29 (one year ago) link

yeah I've been looking for football pitches on the outskirts of the likes of Rochdale, Oldham, Buxton, Blackburn and Burnley but nothing as yet

ignore the blue line (or something), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 21:52 (one year ago) link

I wonder if the wooden repairs to the (canteen?) mean that there was a fire there (somewhere before 2019 as that is the Google copyright date) & this window+roof are new but then the budget was gone? (Or that I just have an over-active imagination)

StanM, Thursday, 4 August 2022 00:04 (one year ago) link

Not much to go on, other than it looks like the north of England. And even that doesn't seem certain, I mean it could be Ireland or Scotland.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 4 August 2022 00:12 (one year ago) link

Also looks very Welsh valleys

nate woolls, Thursday, 4 August 2022 00:55 (one year ago) link

If it wasn't for the car parked the wrong way, it could even be Brittany!

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 4 August 2022 01:13 (one year ago) link

That's definitely Wales I reckon

... what is that green box/object ? A fancy garbage bin, so close to another one just outside the park?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 14:11 (one year ago) link

I'm curious about that strange gate in the fence. Is that perhaps a gate to a dog run, designed to keep dogs from running out while the gate is open? I've never seen that design before. That might explain the small garbage bin on the fence (for dog waste) vs the larger bin outside.

o. nate, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:12 (one year ago) link

The name comes from the gate merely "kissing" (touching) the inside of the enclosure.

What nonsense. As I tell all my friends whenever we come across such a gate, it comes from the fact that you have to give the person in front a kiss before they allow you to pass through.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:24 (one year ago) link

what kind of track is that? BMX would be partly dirt, right?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:27 (one year ago) link

Not necessarily, see e.g. the last Olympics! I've been searching for (grim) pump track (wales).

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:28 (one year ago) link

oh right, pump track is a variety too - thx

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:29 (one year ago) link

thanks for the dn

lol

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:32 (one year ago) link

I feel like that fancy rectangular garbage thing (if it is one) is pretty distinctive maybe, no?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:34 (one year ago) link

do the wind turbines mean "near a coast" ?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:35 (one year ago) link

Not necessarily, they're all over the country here. Maybe the bin has some distinguishing features up close but it wouldn't look out of place to me anywhere in the UK.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:37 (one year ago) link

okay, I hoped my questions would help but they don't :-)

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:39 (one year ago) link

I don't know, it feels very flat for Wales - unless I've happened to only have clicked on more hilly parts

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:43 (one year ago) link

I've definitely seen those bins in Wales. This looks like it could be somewhere like Caerphilly.

nate woolls, Monday, 8 August 2022 21:07 (one year ago) link

i agree this might be wales, but i've seen those bins all over. very generic uk bin imo.

nah I was just riffing on the design of the bin!

assert (matttkkkk), Tuesday, 9 August 2022 01:22 (one year ago) link

That's an awkward gate for a BMX track - tricky getting your bike through it. If it's Wales, then there can't be that many BMX tracks in Welsh cities, but buggered if I'm going to look through them all.

Not that it helps really, but in the mid-distance in the 2nd pic there's a playing field with lights, which may correspond to the seating and lights of the first pic.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 01:57 (one year ago) link

you can see the building from pic 1 (and the playing field) in the background of pic 2.

micah, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 03:17 (one year ago) link

its possible that the kissing gate, while normally meant for cattle, has been adopted here to keep motorbikes off the pump track.

micah, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 03:18 (one year ago) link

nah I was just riffing on the design of the bin!

that’s what you think!

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 9 August 2022 05:47 (one year ago) link

this is hard

StanM, Thursday, 11 August 2022 19:53 (one year ago) link

Bearsden has a pump track that looks right but Street View has a hedge rather than a fence. Also another one in Greater Glasgow that has the right buildings but downhill instead of uphill.

definitely a niche one for the UK crew. without a bit of knowledge of English non-league football teams you'd be looking for it forever (tho with that knowledge i feel i should have found it sooner, was clear from the first pic that there was a football ground and it was prob key)

This is also the very first time I hear about a place called Tow Law. Was the parking violation solution invented there?

StanM, Friday, 12 August 2022 12:08 (one year ago) link

Wikipedia on Tow Law Town (the football club) has this line: "However, not all of the club's fans are hooligans"
