Ha I didn't even think of that but of course. (Clearly it's working on me!)

Drag Race Philippines has been pretty enjoyable so far, honestly.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 August 2022 00:38 (one year ago) link

two weeks pass...

Drag Race Down Under had a satisfactory conclusion, but then I was a bit put off when I read that the winner had previously won a Shmu Shmaul's Shmag Shmace competition in 2020. Which also explains why there's a Drag Race Down Under in the first place.

I also watched the first episode of Jinkx's Sketchy Queens, and it wasn't incredible, but I enjoyed it. It deserves extra writers and a wider audience.

one month passes...

half-assedly dragging myself through the UK season but at least we got what was one of the best exits in the franchise history

scanner darkly, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 02:46 (one year ago) link

Truly was!

Drag Race Philippines was amazing BTW, might be my favorite iteration since Spain debuted.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 03:49 (one year ago) link

three weeks pass...

Drag Race UK is still going, in case anyone was wondering. And the acting challenge was terrible, as per.

Season 15! Just me, eh? Seems like we could have some fireworks this season.

trishyb, Saturday, 7 January 2023 23:48 (one year ago) link

I have to catch up with the premiere next week, but I saw they’re pushing the “not rupauls best friend race” angle this season

عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:17 (one year ago) link

xpost Not just you! Caught up this afternoon. Glad they are basically getting right into it with queens going, but I suspect we're going to have a drawn out season anyway somehow with the MTV boostup. No faves yet but I'm liking a lot of them.

Quick catchup elsewhere that, besides Drag Race Philippines as noted earlier, second season of Drag Race Italia was waaaaay better than the first, they've found their groove now, and it's a good match for the Spanish one. Looking forward to what's next. Liked Drag Race UK well enough, good winner overall. Canada vs. the World was a bit of a timekiller but fun moments. Wondering what happened to Drag Race Holland, should have had season three by now...

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:26 (one year ago) link

(Also this thread is almost ten years old now. Crazy to think of it!)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:47 (one year ago) link

And season seven of Unnnhhhhh was magnificent. I love those idiots.

trishyb, Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:50 (one year ago) link

Utterly great. Can't wait to see what the 200th episode will be.

Relatedly, a very good season of We're Here just wrapped up as well. It almost felt like a series finale at the end too, which given the HBO/Warners weirdness this past year wouldn't surprise me, but hopefully not.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 January 2023 01:12 (one year ago) link

Yeah that We’re Here Florida two-parter was v compelling

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 8 January 2023 01:27 (one year ago) link

Anetra: her routine was great but I'm honestly worried that she kicked Bryce's hand?
Sugar/Spice: Glad they wear their names on a necklace because I'm never going to be able to tell who's who, also, idg the reaction to their performances, which were both one-note and kind of amateurish.
Sasha: I'm here for her DGAF mom vibes and "Zombie."
Marcia^3: hands-down the best thing I've seen on this show in a LONG time
Aura: for all her bulldozing over the other choreographers in the group number, her solo wasn't very good! No real build-up, no shades in her performance.

Rabbity Gainsborough (Leee), Monday, 9 January 2023 00:39 (one year ago) link

Yeah that choice of Sasha's was inspired.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 January 2023 00:39 (one year ago) link

Also, Aura we get it, you have muscles, you can stop flexing them now.

Rabbity Gainsborough (Leee), Monday, 9 January 2023 05:19 (one year ago) link

surprisingly more into it than expected after dragging myself through canada vs the world

maybe it’s because it does seem like there is a lot of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent in this group so far? although it seems it’s getting to the point where if you don’t have a black belt in taekwondo or 1mil followed don’t even think about trying for this show. 4 of them being from connecticut is a bit weird.

they’re gonna setup a lipsync between the twins, aren’t they. speaking of, the shower cap thing would actually be funny if it was used in the other photoshoot.

surprised with the porkchop choice, figured she’d be positioned as the villain of the season

scanner darkly, Monday, 9 January 2023 05:32 (one year ago) link

A villainous departure!

Yeah the Connecticut Cabal is unexpected. Can’t call her a dark horse with her top three placement but I have a good feeling about Jax.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 January 2023 06:24 (one year ago) link

yeah, Jax was great!

i’m sensing they’re setting up “seasoned queens vs tiktok queens” drama

scanner darkly, Monday, 9 January 2023 06:41 (one year ago) link

Mistress: she's going to need more than wig glue to cover up that glaring insecurity.

I was cackling at Michelle's lawn guy land narration during the runway.

Rabbity Gainsborough (Leee), Monday, 9 January 2023 17:27 (one year ago) link

Bigger and bigger:

https://deadline.com/2023/01/rupauls-drag-race-season-15-premiere-ratings-mtv-1235215408/

RuPaul’s Drag Race rang in its move to MTV with a ratings win. The Season 15 premiere was the highest-rated in six years with a 0.63 rating among the advertiser-targeted 18-49 demographic.

That’s up 20% in ratings from the Season 14 premiere, which managed a 0.53 in the demo. It ranked as the No. 1 cable entertainment telecast of the day.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 21:28 (one year ago) link

Also I need to get back on track posting ancillary stuff because there was a lot! And a lot of it was great!

Pit Stop now hosted by Bianca del Rio (score) and initial guests were Ben and Jinkx (double score)

the twins’ facial resemblance to derrick barry is freaking me out

J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 05:49 (one year ago) link

Hahaha hadn't thought of that but you know...maybe they were cloned in a vat.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 05:52 (one year ago) link

miss thing who sang live was really spared an early guillotine, imo

J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 07:23 (one year ago) link

Amazing FB comment about the twins: "out of makeup Sugar & Spice look exactly like Venture Bros"

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 15:47 (one year ago) link

they're also giving like... jedward? you could really build out a whole constellation of celebrity culture that they're in the lineage of

J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 18:29 (one year ago) link

prob shouldn’t be surprising given how cultural nostalgia works but it’s funny how many of these younger queens do ditzy materialistic paris hilton type characters… of course they use the phrase Y2K. to me it’s all very kim petras which is a bit of a snooze conceptually and aesthetically given that she got there 5+ years ago. plus no one is ever gonna top willow pill’s entrance look from last season as far as these things go

J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 18:59 (one year ago) link

Truth, that.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 19:00 (one year ago) link

We're definitely well into the era of 'oh right, these queens are the same age as Lil Nas X...wait, YOUNGER.'

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 19:00 (one year ago) link

Good grief, so the combination of going back to just being an hour long with this many more queens meant this episode was like an insane speed run. (And next week is Snatch Game? How in the world are they going to make THAT work?)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 05:43 (one year ago) link

yeah not loving shorter episodes.

one of the least graceful exits tonight?

expecting great things from loosey!

scanner darkly, Saturday, 14 January 2023 06:46 (one year ago) link

the runway editing was notably arrhythmic in this episode. made the whole thing feel like an afterthought. very weird

J0rdan S., Saturday, 14 January 2023 08:06 (one year ago) link

Haven't dived back in yet, but excited for them to be back on shorter episodes. 90 minutes is deadly.

عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Saturday, 14 January 2023 14:32 (one year ago) link

in canada it’s on cable so without ads it’s 40 min now - at this rate pitstop might be longer than the actual episodes!

they should’ve kept the judges discussion part imo

scanner darkly, Saturday, 14 January 2023 18:25 (one year ago) link

Yeah it's weird not to have at least a "SILENCE!"

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 18:30 (one year ago) link

I’m fully on board with killing some darlings at this point … bloat is one of the things that’s diminished the show to my eyes

عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Saturday, 14 January 2023 18:42 (one year ago) link

I do wonder how much of this is potential overcorrection in terms of getting rid of chaff!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 18:58 (one year ago) link

(That said there is also this new WeHo friends series that's getting aggressively promoted and starts next week, and I assume it's a WoW production too, so I'm guessing that's a factor, especially since it'll run in between the episode and Untucked. Which is a good way for me to just watch the episode and then watch Untucked the next day.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 19:00 (one year ago) link

this season does seem reenergized at least

we still can’t get untucked in canada which is a travesty

scanner darkly, Saturday, 14 January 2023 19:02 (one year ago) link

What kind of savage land do you live in

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 19:12 (one year ago) link

have you seen drag race canada

scanner darkly, Saturday, 14 January 2023 19:15 (one year ago) link

Well, that's not so much savagery as a cargo cult

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 19:19 (one year ago) link

ok late to the party, fully caught up now. Enjoying the season so far, it’s been pretty fun!

My favorites are Sasha Colby (obv) and Anetra, but I also enjoy Malaysia Foxx because I love a big southern queen. I wasn’t sure abt Lux at first but now def growing on me (her glitter bodysuit in the talent show may have swayed me). The twins are interesting & clearly talented, curious to see how they play out.

Mistress is interesting too, she seems to have a lot of layers to her personality. Loving her runway looks so far.

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 January 2023 03:48 (one year ago) link

Yeah generally that's about where I'm at with people to focus on, plus Jax still. Not sure yet who the season 'narrator' will be, there's usually someone who starts taking on the obvious role with time.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 15 January 2023 03:50 (one year ago) link

Untucked is on OutTV after the episode.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 15 January 2023 03:54 (one year ago) link

I know it could be read differently but i really liked in untucked that Mistress gave solid advice to queens like Marcia & Sugar

i like that as a seasoned queen she’s not trying to be threatened by the newbies or crush their aspirations yknow

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 January 2023 04:00 (one year ago) link

xp for some reason i thought they only had older seasons and crave had the exclusive rights to new seasons - thank you, just subscribed!

scanner darkly, Sunday, 15 January 2023 04:05 (one year ago) link

That was a very rushed episode, and also I think it's fine when it's Trixie and Katya or other established queens, but some of the newer acts might want to be careful about taking the piss out of straight white women who show up to meet and greets and drag brunches.
