i read the words "Trump's cum stains" earlier and it completely ruined my day

Karl Malone, Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:16 (one year ago) link

Sorry, on what grounds are they going to dismiss this case?

frogbs, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:29 (one year ago) link

Not a dismissal, she is apparently considering granting Trump's motion for a special master (and thereby halting DOJ's review of the documents pending the special master's review). It's a grotesquerie.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 00:31 (one year ago) link

How the fuck is a Trump appointed judge allowed to have anything to do with this case

frogbs, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:33 (one year ago) link

ginni thomas said it would be fine

Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:40 (one year ago) link

Reminder

Leaving aside how far Judge Cannon is going to accommodate Trump, it’s not like appointing a special master changes anything about Trump’s potential liability or the legitimacy of DOJ’s search. It’s about the possible return of *some* of the seized materials — and nothing more. https://t.co/MrWQdacvfi

It will slow things down, not stop them, and I am betting an appeal gets any ruling of hers tossed for lack of jurisdiction

Lots of grinning skulls up in there

This is fun:

Bill Barr said he did not believe Trump's claim that he had declassified everything before it was taken to his Florida resort, and he hit back at critics of the FBI search saying it was 'unprecedented' for such sensitive materials to be taken to a 'country club.'

Barr made his comments as Trump supporters continue to accuse the FBI and Department of Justice of conducted a witch hunt...

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 2 September 2022 20:46 (one year ago) link

witch hunt is so season 2 of this show

Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:21 (one year ago) link

xpost The actual clip is kind of fun, because he goes out of his way to give that quote:

Bill Barr: "I think the driver on this from the beginning was loads of classified information sitting in Mar-a-Lago. People say this was unprecedented, well it’s also unprecedented for a president to take all this classified information and put them in a country club, ok!" pic.twitter.com/A7fT59aKpD

it would hit so much harder if he wasn't such an untrustable and corrupt person himself

Oh, for sure, he is a poop.

Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:40 (one year ago) link

also if the coup would have worked, barr would have carried into the new term as the new lord of justice

Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:41 (one year ago) link

I'm sure he quit because he understood it had almost no chance of success, especially once the military told Trump to pound sand.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 21:43 (one year ago) link

Bill Barr is a shit and should be in gulag but it’s good that he, as an administration henchman, is saying this to a Fox audience.

sweating like Cathy *aaaack* (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 2 September 2022 21:44 (one year ago) link

The more generous way to read it is, "I am a corrupt creature, a calculating, conniving crony, but even I have my limits."

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:44 (one year ago) link

I mean, he was brought on as AG because of his track record of successfully covering up presidential misconduct.

I wouldn't want to send him to a gulag, but I do think it would be fitting if he were disbarred.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 21:45 (one year ago) link

i'm sure trump hates his guts, but barr did him a major solid by putting out that memo (or press release? I don't remember) that purportedly summarized the findings of the Mueller report, weeks/months before that report became public. he straight up lied to protect Trump. he made it seem like an exoneration for Trump. Even now, to this day, since no one ever reads shit like the Muller report, even many/most liberal/left people have no idea how damning it was (and even that, from Mueller's team, seeming to bend over backward for Trump at every point)

Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:46 (one year ago) link

it took a village to polish that turd for America

Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:47 (one year ago) link

Didn't the unredacted version of the Mueller report he summarized just come out a few days ago, revealing ... nothing? Or did I miss something.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:48 (one year ago) link

barr is a pile of steaming shit but the part in that clip about how long the DOJ should be expected to wait before acting is pretty solid

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:49 (one year ago) link

xpost i didn't know that an unredacted version just came out, i wasn't trying to reference current news, whoops. but...

it wasn't the redactions that were the problems with it. i'm talking about criticisms that were evident as soon as the Mueller report came out. differences between how Barr described them (falsely, inaccurately "leaked" it, more like) and what the actual contents of the released report were.

“The inconsistencies between Attorney General Barr’s statements, made at a time when the public did not have access to the redacted version of the Mueller Report to assess the veracity of his statements, and portions of the redacted version of the Mueller Report that conflict with those statements cause the Court to seriously question whether Attorney General Barr made a calculated attempt to influence public discourse about the Mueller Report in favor of President Trump despite certain findings in the redacted version of the Mueller Report to the contrary,” the judge added.

wow, Barr got slammed on that one! so many consequences for him!!

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 21:58 (one year ago) link

Asked what he thought of the argument for the appointment of a special master, Mr. Barr laughed. “I think it’s a crock of shit,” he said, adding, “I don’t think a special master is called for.” https://t.co/auJhHiRXGN

I've a hunch that Barr is deeply offended that, after Trump hired him as AG, he's publicly employed a long list of lawyers who are complete hacks and fools, thus forcing Barr to be associated with them in the public mind.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 2 September 2022 22:48 (one year ago) link

Right. Barr may be a liar, an authoritarian and an enabler of authoritarians, but he is neither a hack nor a fool.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 22:51 (one year ago) link

no he's a hack

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 September 2022 23:22 (one year ago) link

Yeah but he is a *conceited* hack, and one whose father helped give Jeffrey Epstein a leg up into high society. We must respect him.

I guess we can at least agree he is not a quack.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 23:28 (one year ago) link

He’s just a fucking asshole GOP apparatchik.

treeship., Friday, 2 September 2022 23:29 (one year ago) link

The best description I ever read of Barr's look was "Steve Bannon Meets Queer Eye."

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 23:29 (one year ago) link

He’d still be carrying water for Trump if it was in any way in his interest to do so. He’s just making a different calculation these days.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 September 2022 23:30 (one year ago) link

Alfred have you read Russ Baker’s book “Family of Secrets,” and if so do you regard it as quackery or a pretty good portrayal of how the Bush family situated themselves at the center of American power?
