the 1975

Heard the 1975 on the radio this morning, maybe for the first time, and interestingly enough it was on the broadly/blandly "eclectic" station. It was "Part of the Band" (introduced iirc as "breaking new ground for the 1975," because it was so "lush"), followed by songs by Zeppelin, the Strokes, etc. (This is the station that plays DMB *and* Wet Leg, Cheap Trick and Japanese Breakfast.) I guess it makes sense, because the 1975 could fit in almost anywhere, though also "Part of the Band" isn't particularly representative of the group, imo, so I wonder what people expecting more of the same might think of the album.

So wait, did Jack Antonoff produce the whole album, or have credits not been revealed yet?

iirc there was some indication that he didn't do every track? but full credits aren't out yet

I looked on Wiki, and at first I thought he had just produced the three singles so far, but then I noticed those were the only songs with production credits listed. Though curiously (or perhaps incompletely) Antonoff is *not* listed as a co-writer. There's that quote that was in the Pitchfork feature:

Healy also makes it clear that he’s always the one in full creative control—of production, songwriting, performances. “Everything the 1975 does, I write.” He laughs softly. “No one touches the lyrics.”

the full writing credits are out, just not production credits. he doesn't have any writing credits

the band or Matty not sure are on the new episode of the How Long Gone podcast

trying to confirm whether it's the band or just Matty but i'm still at the long-winded intro

i do not get the appeal of the hosts or this popular-among-certain-circles podcast whatsoever

like do you have to be irl friends with them to care about these two hosts or

I think the pod is great but it takes a few eps to get a feel for their personalities and suss out when they're being serious or doing a bit/trolling.

I think Jason is a legitimately great host and interviewer. been following since his Tall Tales podcast, the best episodes of which were always 1 on 1s with Chris Black. long time coming.

just got my ticket to see them for the third time. matty indicated they're playing the new album in full on tour but i hope there's lots of stuff from notes on the setlist since they never got to tour that

covid wiping out the notes tour was personally disastrous

the tour i wanna see is that album in full w/ some other songs sprinkled in

i wouldn't really want them to do all of notes, it's too messy

would love all of i like it when you sleep though, especially since they didn't play here on the proper tour for it so i haven't seen many deeper cuts from it live

I don't know how "tootime" sounded on the tour for that album, but that new live version is dope

definitely the best "the 1975" though

this is their most sophisti-pop album easily

pretty solid overall, maybe their second-best front-to-back even if it doesn't quite reach the same highs as some of their other albums. only "part of the band" really blew me away like they have at their best but "oh caroline" is really good too. "i'm in love with you" & "all i need to hear" were really boring single choices, i was worried the album would be dull but it's pretty good after all

it's totally both

i like it a lot more than the last time they were inspired by "all my friends" (the direct melodic quote at the start of "sex" that's just annoying in how direct it is)
