i think there's a place for green peppers but coronation chicken isn't it, neither is the kiev pizza i ordered from Pizza to Go last week, ffs lads

M&S current CC is afaict old school and entirely pleasant (no spinach) tho a very meagre portion imo

i might go out and buy some shortly, "out of respect" etc

perhaps pizzas aren't the right place for green bell peppers, but I like them in black bean sauce dishes from the Chinese takeaway, casseroles, stews and with pasta.

calzino, Saturday, 10 September 2022 11:20 (one year ago) link

Green peppers in ground beef or black beans are essential. After cooking I of course separate them lol

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 10 September 2022 11:57 (one year ago) link

ok it's the CC *sandwich* that has the spinach, i suspect (like the one ring) as a binding tool -- the coronation chicken that comes w/o bread in a plastic pot of its own is still o/g CC

mark s, Saturday, 10 September 2022 13:29 (one year ago) link

oh the pots are fine, though I haven't tried the M&S one.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 10 September 2022 13:47 (one year ago) link

Green peppers are the nicest ones, the bitter taste is so much nicer to me than red or yellow. Always my preference in anything.

Osama bin Chinese (gyac), Saturday, 10 September 2022 15:58 (one year ago) link

thanks gyac, finally some sense!

calzino, Saturday, 10 September 2022 16:02 (one year ago) link

I used to prefer red peppers, but now it's orange and green. Frequently if I get a mixed bag the red one doesn't get used.

calzino, Saturday, 10 September 2022 16:05 (one year ago) link

Red are ok, find yellow much worse and sweeter. Honestly shocked anyone would dislike green ones tbh.

Osama bin Chinese (gyac), Saturday, 10 September 2022 16:10 (one year ago) link

I can tolerate yellow ones in spicy dishes, possibly with enough cayenne pepper to override the sweetness.

calzino, Saturday, 10 September 2022 16:13 (one year ago) link

I will eat absolutely anything with this one exception, especially if served raw, as they were in the memorable sandwich which I'm pretty sure gave me food poisoning

I heard on a food program that coriander tastes like toothpaste to a small % of people with some kind of taste anomaly, maybe it's how your taste receptors are wired or something like that.

calzino, Saturday, 10 September 2022 16:17 (one year ago) link

toothpaste tastes nice tho, its minty fresh

mark s, Saturday, 10 September 2022 16:22 (one year ago) link

does coronation chicken always have sultanas in? back when I was a regular packaged sandwich consumer it was hard to find a chicken tikka type, especially in "nice" sandwich shops.

kinder, Saturday, 10 September 2022 17:46 (one year ago) link

imo yes (no idea abt the sandwich version)

mark s, Saturday, 10 September 2022 17:47 (one year ago) link

yes, sultanas (or raisins) are canon

Anyone who thinks they don’t like peppers should try peeling them before cooking with them

Improves them enormously as taco filling or in pasta sauces, the bitterness is tempered but still charming

i like to roast the peppers. now that's delicious

maybe that's part of why i enjoy the roasted ones so much -- broiled, brown-bagged, and peeled - you cannot go wrong

I love bell peppers and eat peperonata with grilled bread as a meal probably 10 times per year. But throwing raw bell pepper on a pizza is a mistake.

"i like to roast the peppers. now that's delicious"

I like them slightly burnt by grill, pan or oven - then add them to something.

I used to like green bell peppers on pizza but i don't think i ever had em as the only topping, there were always onions and sometimes mushrooms and olives.

i usually end up buying an orange pepper "for a change" when i go into the store thinking i want a red one. the orange ones used to be prohibitively expensive but now they cost the same. i think ultimately the red ones are still my favorite but i need a break.

had some gross soups and stews that would have been fine without the green bell peppers. but also some amazing veggie paella that would have been pretty meh without em

has anyone tried making roasted green pepper sauce for pasta? could be good.

You mean the leaf or the seed? I use coriander leaves a lot, but the seeds make me nauseous, at least in my own cooking.

xp

they meant the leaf. I've got coriander seeds on my spice rack, but I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I've used them. I've frequently used mustard seeds in different Bombay Potato recipes though.
