"Hey Jude" vs. "Suspicious Minds"

“Imagine” is the only song everybody loves

Every Beatles song has millions of people who don’t like it, but “Hey Jude” is one of the more inexplicable cases (to me). It’s my favorite Beatles song, as “Suspicious Minds” is my favorite Elvis song.

There was a discussion over on the karaoke thread about "Hey Jude" that might be relevant here.

A poll I put up a few years ago:

I like "Hey Jude" fine, and don't group it in with "The Long and Winding Road"; it won this poll, but I realize lots of people hate it.

If we're honest though, this poll was a tie. Elvis double-tracked his lead vocal, McCartney didn't. Therefore 56 votes divided by 2 vocal tracks = 28.

I know plenty of sad souls who do not like the Beatles in general. I have never known anyone who harbored a particular hate for "Hey Jude." Maybe I've just been lucky.

Also, the margin of victory for "Suspicious Minds" is inexplicable to me.

It doesn't have Elvis hyperventilating and going "Judy Judy " at the end.
