Pot Still is great, I like it there.

Come browse in Avalanche, I'm the potential pub companion that works there. Although I may be contractually obliged to recommend a look, I also mean it genuinely. We're about the closest to the Pot Still too.

There is a Missing in Paisley as well, but I always forget it's there. I have no idea how it survives, because every time I remember it's there, there's never anyone else in it.

ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 23:40 (fourteen years ago) link

I pretty much stopped going to Missing when they stopped selling new stuff - probably about 5 years ago. They used to be good for new releases on Constellation & Southern & other post-rocky type labels. This is before I realised I could sit on the Internet and never need to enter a record shop again, obv. I think they stopped selling gig tickets as well - I can't imagine there was much demand for that with Tickets Scotland about 4 doors along.

Missing sounds like my kind of shop. However I've just been looking at guitar shops online and there's a couple that I really ought to go to. So dunno if I'll get time for recd shops - we'll see.

Dr.C, Thursday, 30 July 2009 15:16 (fourteen years ago) link

So do we have a plan here? Pot Still... But when?

Keith, Sunday, 2 August 2009 19:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Tuesday, was it? I usually finish work between five and five-thirty so any time after that is fine by me.

Madchen, Sunday, 2 August 2009 19:51 (fourteen years ago) link

Cool. Well I'll probably pop through during the day as I might as well, being on holiday... Will give you guys a call, but maybe assume around six or so...

Keith, Sunday, 2 August 2009 19:53 (fourteen years ago) link

We're on holiday as well, so we thought we might grab a bite to eat first then pop into the pub.

ailsa, Sunday, 2 August 2009 21:00 (fourteen years ago) link

Not had a chance to post here in the past few days but aye, Pot Still sounds good ... like I say, I'll come along once I've finished work. Madchen/Ailsa/Keith: you've got my number, so text me if any changes of plan.

I'll be the one with the pronounced limp, having knackered my foot running frantically around Coatbridge wearing Converse All-Stars. Christ, I manage to land myself with some utterly laughable injuries.

grimly fiendish, Monday, 3 August 2009 10:24 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm sure there's a question you're dying for someone to ask there.

ailsa, Monday, 3 August 2009 10:25 (fourteen years ago) link

No: whatever you imagine is probably more entertaining than the reality. As is usually the case with me.

grimly fiendish, Monday, 3 August 2009 10:27 (fourteen years ago) link

I forgot I have a meeting in Aberdeen tomorrow, so I'll be back a bit later than expected, but I will be there. In a suit.

Madchen, Monday, 3 August 2009 21:59 (fourteen years ago) link

We'll be there sometime between half six and seven, I would imagine.

ailsa, Monday, 3 August 2009 22:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I am in Pret on Sauceyhall street. Can any readers beat that?

Keith, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 15:43 (fourteen years ago) link

Ow my head hurts. Stupidest idea ever = going to terrible club PLAY after pub. I remember being in there one night with a pal and there was a wee separate late quiet bar rather than TERRIBLE STUDENT NIGHT full of pished weirdos on the pull. Still, beer = £1, so slight win.

ailsa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 10:43 (fourteen years ago) link

Was good fun though, nice to meet you Mr. C!

Keith, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 10:45 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry to have missed this, shit happened

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 10:58 (fourteen years ago) link

£1 beer!!!!

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 11:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Drink alcolol responsibly.

Keith, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 11:15 (fourteen years ago) link

£1 beer does not render the concept of a club where you have a sticker with a number stuck on you then people write rude messages about what they'd like to do to a person of a certain number and put it on a wall any more bearable. We lasted approx half an hour, and that was just for beer. I'd actually rendered myself back sober again by this point.

ailsa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 11:17 (fourteen years ago) link

this sounds like the kind of outing i could have gotten behind

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 11:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Hang the FUCK on, how come my round of four beers cost me £12, then?

And is that what the numbers were for? I didn't even question that. Holy hellfire, I was drunk. Today is proving very, very tough.

Awesome night, anyway. Dr C fucking rules.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 12:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Special Brew was 3 quid a can

Keith, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 12:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Miller was £1 a bottle, you should have asked. The only reason to go into twatty clubs is to ask the barman what is on promotion, then drink that.

I bought bloody Miller! Fuck's *sake*. Irritating piss-taking club fuck-ends.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 13:44 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry I cdn't make it dr. c

can we do the same for tombot tho?

(I can't remember my password for my login :/)

cozwn (webinar), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 13:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Did you not buy Corona rather than Miller?

We were discussing upcoming Tombot FAP last night. Any excuse for more beer (though not as much as last night, unless it is a weekend or I have the day off. I'm just starting to feel vaguely human again) is good for me.

ailsa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:07 (fourteen years ago) link

AH. That might have been it. Something yellow and fizzy in a bottle, anyway.

Tombot FAP: were we discussing that? I don't really remember ... oh, no, hang on, that was round about the time of the wasabi peas, wasn't it? Aye, it'd be good to get some unkent faces along, too: Krakow, Jim and anyone else who might fancy it?

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:52 (fourteen years ago) link

weird night with added chilli puffs

Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:09 (fourteen years ago) link

but it was an absolute pleasure to meet everyone - Ailsa, Mr. Ailsa, Grimly, Stet, Keith and Lucy - you were fantastic company.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah was great to meet you too... Until the next time.

Keith, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Dr C, excessive alcohol has ruined me, so can't take you out for Celtic-watching japes. Was great to meet you though, sorry for lapsing into incoherent gibberish by the end of the night.

Grimly, tombotFAP was discussed earlier in the evening when we were still in the Pot Still.

ailsa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:31 (fourteen years ago) link

It's OK Ailsa -I have a whiskey-tasting reception that I have to go to in an hour. Despite being in good shape this morning considering the ruin of last night, I shall not be partaking of any scotch just in case. Re: gibberish - I will try to email you later if I get the chance.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Sorry. I bailed. I just wasn't feeling into it last night.

krakow, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Hi Dr C! It was good to see you. I can't believe you guys went to a student night six weeks before Freshers' Week ffs. Very glad I didn't partake of the poundbeers what with my early meeting and that.

Also, we did it! We organised a Glasgow FAP! Looking forward to seeing Tombot soon.

Madchen, Thursday, 6 August 2009 11:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I may be able to make the Tombot FAP, depending on the day it happens.

Greig (treefell), Thursday, 6 August 2009 11:41 (fourteen years ago) link

i should have gone for fish & chips with you madchen!

didn't get to eat mock chops. So must return one day to do that!

Dr.C, Thursday, 6 August 2009 13:57 (fourteen years ago) link

It was very bad, cheap Chinese rather than F&C so you had a lucky escape. I forgot mock chops.

Madchen, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:39 (fourteen years ago) link

did you have a mock chop suey instead?

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:40 (fourteen years ago) link

When's the next one then?

krakow, Thursday, 6 August 2009 21:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Lance Armstrong is in Glasgow today en route to the Tour Of Ireland on Thursday and he's doing an open invitation ride at 12pm from Paisley today! I'll be there! How excited am I? Very!

"Hey Glasgow - group ride starts at Ashtree House Hotel. 9 Orr Square. Paisley, Scotland. See you there at noon!!"

krakow, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Graeme Obree turned up for the ride as well, along with about 300 others. There are a couple very jealous cyclists at work here who missed out on it.

firestorm of twat rage (onimo), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 15:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Were you there? I rode harder and faster then I ever have in my life. It was an amazing experience, I'm still on a high from it. Being part of 300 cyclists blasting out of Paisley at >20mph in the pouring rain following Lance was a stunning thing.

I'm also on BBC Reporting Scotland: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/player/?item=44534835
Report starts at 9:30 minutes, you can see me in the blue jacket and black cycling cap taking my gloves off right in front of the camera at 9:52 onwards for a good few seconds.

I rode it fixed, with a laden courier bag, no lycra in sight, and managed to hold my own. Roadies eat that!
