Kris are you back for good?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Is that the one with the handpainted cover? I think I have it on tape somewhere.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:19 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm back for good, pretty much.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:21 (nineteen years ago) link

I live on 17th and Madison, on the downtown side of the lake.

4 hours of free time to kill here tomorrow. Any suggestions? Food?

I've been once before but it's just a blurry boring memory in my head.

Capitol Garage on 15th and K - yummo sandwiches (I miss their old location tho')
Streets of London pub, 18th and J - killer fish and chips, good for a pint and some soccer
Nationwide Meats, 19th & H - best burgers in town. no frills, looks like a converted bank
Suzie Burger, 28th and P - next best thing to In N Out Burger. good burgers.
Corti Brothers, 59th and Folsom Blvd - best deli sandwiches in town. crazy good.
Gunther's Icecream, 2801 Franklin Blvd - yum yum YUM

The Beat, 17th and J st - big record store, new and used, lots to pick through.
Beer's Books, 9th and S - like a book version of the Beat. Can spend days in here.

Thanks vegemite! I will probably go to Nationwide tomorrow and maybe Gunther's.

I walked past Streets of London and The Beat in search of take-out. They both looked cool. Very lovely weather, a great evening to wander around.

OLD SAC!!

LOLBJ (Eisbaer), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago) link

(i liked the little hole-in-the-wall indonesian restaurant in Old Sac, if it's food that you're looking for.)

LOLBJ (Eisbaer), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago) link

We went to Nationwide and then walked to Old Sac (which is great in the Disneyland-sense) and slept on benches by the river while a bunch of kids made a youtube rap video. Later in the day I saw Arnold. Conclusion: Sac-town is def good for a day of fun.

iatee, Thursday, 26 March 2009 05:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Other thoughts: Governor's Mansion is pretty, Crest theater might have the greatest theater sign I've ever seen, just gorgeous.

iatee, Thursday, 26 March 2009 05:57 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, Old Sac is a tourist trap ... but then again, i am fond of tourist traps and the attendant cheesiness and crass profiteering (i also enjoyed SF's Fisherman's Wharf). i really liked the Railroad Museum and the restored Old West buildings there, too.

i only spent one day in Sacramento, so i can't really judge the town too much. but being used to crappy East Coast capitol cities (like Trenton, NJ and Albany, NY), it was a nice surprise that Sacramento was actually pretty nice and interesting.

thirteen years pass...

Staying downtown for a few days because my wife is running the marathon.

Dud was trying to drive to our hotel between the afternoon and evening shows by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the King’s arena. Took 45 minutes to get halfway around the block.

Classic was Binchoyaki, the izakaya we went to which was awesome. Yakitori, ramen, all good.

i love Binchoyaki! Taiwan Best Mart across the street has great lunch boxes & tons of good housemade frozen stuff, great DUMPLINGS! but they dont always carry them

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 December 2022 06:07 (one year ago) link

The menu at Binchoyaki had so much good stuff.

Any record stores you would recommend near the capitol?

The Bankruptcy of the Planet of the Apes (PBKR), Saturday, 3 December 2022 16:33 (one year ago) link

happy hunting!

Beers Books on S St. is well worth the stop if you want to unwind in a used book store.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 4 December 2022 10:32 (one year ago) link

otm, beers rules

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 December 2022 20:00 (one year ago) link

We went to Kicksville and to Beers Books. Both were great! I got Miles Davis’ Water Babies and PKD’s Valis. We went to Bottle and Barlow, which was kind of a hard drinking millennial bar. It was a really fun evening.
