for some reason the requirement that non-black pens be used is cracking me up

Meant to discourage bulk submissions. There used to be a whole thing where a "wet signature" with blue pen was thought to indicate "signed for real" instead of "scanned once and printed multiple times" (even though laser printers have been able to print in blue for quite a long while).

They don't want any of the prizes to be won by someone with an elaborate mass-spamming operation like in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"

xp how has no one done a bit where trump gives out golden tickets for a tour of maralago with oompaloompa housekeepers, chocolate swamp golf course, q gum that tastes like conspiracy, private teevee cameras, great glass escalators etc etc etc

because Willy Wonka is a beloved and magical character and not a venal, whining narcissist?

Kinda like baseball cards, except that you pay a 10% royalty every time you trade them.

On each secondary sale of a Trump Digital Trading Card, there will be a 10% royalty on the sale price that will be paid back to the creator.

First of all "the creator?" Does he think he's god?

Secondly, are they covering the extremely outside chance that these become valuable, so Trump wants to make additional profit?

just a few updates

1) it appears that all of the NFTs sold out (or were bought in bulk by one giant fucking loser as a favor, who knows)

Who bought these? Trump’s digital trading cards have sold out, all 45,000 of them at $99 each. That means he raised $4.45 million in just 12 hours. (Data: OpenSea) pic.twitter.com/JbLr1CTkO3

— Mike Sington (@MikeSington) December 16, 2022

2) it is incredibly hard to find the website where the "cards" were listed. i know i posted the URL yesterday, and i will scroll up. but i'm just saying, it is really hilariously hard to find on the internet, even after doing it once. (update: https://www.collecttrumpcards.com/)

3) it was pretty clear just from glancing at them, but at least some of the amazing art was just photoshopped from the websites of clothing brand. https://gizmodo.com/donald-trump-nft-trading-cards-1849900531 in other words they'll probably get sued about all of this, and about 10-15 years from now you'll see a news item noting that the case was settled out of court

These are the new stock buybacks.

nashwan, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:07 (one year ago) link

You're laughing now, but when I sell the entire collection in a few years for a massive profit (minus the 105 fee) I'll be the one laughing.

Wait, are we talking about Tesla stock?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:11 (one year ago) link

Do you think he faked the purchase of all the cards? How much tax will he have to pay for their sale?

o shit the sheriff (NickB), Friday, 16 December 2022 16:14 (one year ago) link

I will go on record as saying I really do not think 45,000 people actually bought Trump NFTs

frogbs, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:16 (one year ago) link

Yeah, I have no idea how that works. Can I offer a make-believe golden calf for sale, and then immediately just claim it's been sold for a million dollars? Has any fraud been committed if there was no actual exchange of anything?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:16 (one year ago) link

maybe no one was buying them so they just pretended they sold out, wld make sense the nft market is completely dead and trumps demographic is not exactly the nft type

lag∞n, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:19 (one year ago) link

you can prove that there were real exchanges of crypto, at least:

https://opensea.io/collection/trump-digital-trading-cards

(warning: be careful browsing that site. there is some really, really good art on there and you might just have to buy something for your collection!!)

Karl Malone, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:20 (one year ago) link

no I think they actually "sold" (that data is publicly available) but they sold in the same way those Bored Apes were "selling" when it turned out it was just like 3 people buying them from each other at steadily escalating prices. like it's either money laundering or whoever made these bought them in order to drive up the price, something that did briefly work two years ago thanks to idiots like Jimmy Fallon and Paris Hilton actually spending tons of cash on them

frogbs, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:22 (one year ago) link

like this one

https://opensea.io/assets/matic/0x24a11e702cd90f034ea44faf1e180c0c654ac5d9/36404

if i'm understanding, it was transferred to "MyNFTonETH" yesterday for 0.0559 ETH, which is currently "worth" around $67 but was presumably worth around $99 yesterday. since then, MyNFTonETH has listed it for 0.175 ETH and then dropped it to 0.150 ETH a few minutes ago, which is around $179, currently. you'd think that would be way too much, but they have received dozens of offers already, including one as high as 0.133 ETH ($159).

just as a reminder, this is all for this

im sure anyone who knows a lil about tracking crypto transactions could figure out if those were legit sales pretty easily, the trump org is not known for its rigor, in fact i the info is prob already on twitter

who know how to buy NFTs and are willing to spend $99 to do so? idk just look at the NFT market this year practically nobody is buying them

frogbs, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:29 (one year ago) link

I mean it's really a pretty brilliant scam: I have 5,000 limited edition piece of shit jpegs for sale @ $100 a pop. Whoooops, they all just 'sold out' and are even more valuable! And now all of the shitty jpegs that I totally sold to other people and totally didn't just keep for myself are available at inflated prices on the secondary market. And if you have a long history of fraudulent behavior without ever having suffered punishment sufficient enough to do you any harm whatsoever, why would you even hesitate?

Beautiful Bean Footage Fetishist (Old Lunch), Friday, 16 December 2022 16:30 (one year ago) link

well he does need someone to actually buy them at some point

lag∞n, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:33 (one year ago) link

Here's the Opensea wallet of the person who bought 1,000 Trump NFTs. No previous activity before (though it's trivial to set up a new wallet). Major collection. This is how generational wealth is built.https://t.co/kiHL7r5naf pic.twitter.com/CPyqc0DXHa

Trump might be an exception as far as the NFT market goes. He's probably the most famous celebrity to put out an NFT, I'd think? I could totally see there being a lot of initial demand for these fucking things.

jmm, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:37 (one year ago) link

idk trumps hardcore fans are more buying gold coins off fox news types than digital art investors, asking them to go through the process of buying one of these things is a lot

lag∞n, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:40 (one year ago) link

xps

honestly, i don't know how difficult it is to fake all these transactions. but it would seem that you'd have to at least have thousands of fake wallets?

if they did, it was a pretty complicated scheme with thousands of fake buyers. like, on that shitpic i posted just above, there are dozens of offers from different accounts on it, already. here's one of the accounts that's made an offer - https://opensea.io/techboss - techboss has 6 NFTs and has been on opensea since oct 2021.

again, beats me, maybe it's easy to create a bunch of fake accounts to make it look like a bunch of different people actually bought them. but if they did, then it seems like an unusual level of competence for either trump or the grifters to make these accounts that look like they've had authentic shitty taste in investments for over a year now

Karl Malone, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:42 (one year ago) link

it would be not very hard to do it if you wanted to, wash trading is basically what nfts are for, whether wanted to or not who knows, maybe they sold some and bought the rest idk

lag∞n, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:43 (one year ago) link

assuming that theres scamming going on with nfts is a very safe bet tho

lag∞n, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:44 (one year ago) link

i mean who did the technical part of making the nfts probably an established nft entity aka a scammer

lag∞n, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:47 (one year ago) link

definitely wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. the chances of "trump nfts were a money laundering scheme" happening is very high and approaches 100% in the long-term

Karl Malone, Friday, 16 December 2022 16:51 (one year ago) link

trump nfts were a money laundering scheme requires no scare quotes, just a fact
