Killing third party clients would certainly make me quit. Unusable without tweetbot.

My thoughts on this are known and yes

Albatross for Android seems to be, at this point.
― Look closely, that is all. (doo dah), Friday, 13 January 2023 13:57 (one year ago) link
hopefully this is a bug
I kept jokingly telling people on Twitter not to mention the third-party apps to Elon because I honestly think he didn’t understand they exist! This might be what happens when someone finally explained to him that they do :(
― mh, Friday, 13 January 2023 14:03 (one year ago) link
Tweetdeck still seems to work thank goodness (and my timeline on the iOS client remains chronological.)

I’m still locked out on Tweetbot. The convulsions have stopped but I still have a terrible headache.

People are being negative about 'following' but isn't that how twitter should work?
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 January 2023 11:20 (one year ago) link
Some things about Twitter haven't changed. A local news story here has gone mildly viral, due to bad actions by our local sheriff's department. A post about it by Radley Balko made it look like it was actually the city police department. As somebody who has covered this story from day 1, I replied with a slight correction that it was the sheriff's department. And for the last four days I've been responding to people who think that somehow directing their rage in the right direction amounts to loving cops.

I’m not twitter person- like i didn’t really know about tweetdeck 3p apps and shit, but i’m still surprised there isn’t some kind of alt medium better than mastodon or whatev. is that like just not gonna happen or ?
― normal AI yankovic (Hunt3r), Saturday, 14 January 2023 18:52 (one year ago) link
its hard to get people to switch it might even be impossible what you need is something that people want to use on its own merits not because its a replacement, you start with a small group of early users having fun fucking around developing the language of the app so to speak and eventually more people are attracted to that situation, also all the attempted twitter replacements have exactly the wrong idea theyre trying to make an elevated serious nice twitter but whats good about twitter is that its funny messy weird etc
― lag∞n, Saturday, 14 January 2023 19:10 (one year ago) link
prob more likely that twitter dies on its own than having its users stolen by a replacement

I wondered about tweetdeck cos they are/were used by a lot of company accounts? But they say it’s affected them too:
If I'm being real, I'm starting to feel like TweetDeck's days are counted because like 3rd party clients it doesn't bring any (ad) revenue. If it happens I expect it to be done in a cowardly manner, without any warning because that's how Twitter does things now I suppose.— BetterTDeck is unmaintained. ― lag∞n, Sunday, 15 January 2023 18:33 (one year ago) link
wld be funny if they nuked all third party apps and tweetdeck as part of their project to alienate advertisers
― lag∞n, Sunday, 15 January 2023 18:36 (one year ago) link
Yeah, I dug a little more:
Welp, all the people I've met over the years at Twitter/working on Tweetdeck either left or got laid off. Make of that what you want but: oof. 🫡— Damien ✨ (@Eramdam) November 18, 2022

― Jeff, Sunday, 15 January 2023 19:48 (one year ago) link
tweetdeck is hackable (just js/html/css) and people have been adding little tweaks like that for a long time

I’m so behind.

it’s a diff project called “Better Tweetdeck” and the original dev sold Tweetdeck to twitter in 2011 or thereabouts
― mh, Sunday, 15 January 2023 20:03 (one year ago) link
uh oh, looking at a single accounts tweets on tweetbot still not working :(

Sheen Austin, who joined Twitter from Tesla, is out. He led the infrastructure team after Musk laid off Nelson Abramson. No details yet as to why.— Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer) January 15, 2023

xps yeah major wires crossed on my part, I was misreading something that made me think he was the original dev.

Gold check accounts have a square userpic now for no reason I can discern other than making twitter uglier to look at.
― ⓓⓡ (Johnny Fever), Monday, 16 January 2023 01:13 (one year ago) link
It seems tweetbot switched their API keys and it worked for a hot second, but now gone again.
― Jeff, Monday, 16 January 2023 02:28 (one year ago) link
Gold check reminds me of the uk pol concept of piss diamonds.

Gotta say 'following' is the site at the best it's ever been. It's just what the 300 or so accounts I follow post/like/retweet. There is less of Musk or any other crap than I've seen since he took over. Surely it won't last but I am enjoying it. Take out the ads and it would've been close to perfect.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:40 (one year ago) link
I don't spent as much time on the app as I used to either.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:41 (one year ago) link
that’s how I’ve been viewing twitter for years w/tweetbot
― mh, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:46 (one year ago) link
Lol I had no idea that option was on the table. Knew it was too good to be true that the cunt had come up with something useful.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:50 (one year ago) link
I'm a very, very light user of Twitter (I've barely posted anything since 2019), but I don't think I know what ppl mean by ads? I don't think I ever see any? Nothing in my "Following" feed that is being pushed at me as far as I can tell.
― Michael Jones, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:54 (one year ago) link
there are fewer ads right now because no one’s paying for them, but I was seeing an ad every 50 - 100 tweets on the web yesterday
