Latham I know you say no judgment but you did follow that up with a few posts of mockery, and sharing gossip column article is likely to generate such circular "look at her" firing squads. i just don't want us to turn into Star magazine like portions of old-ILX could tend to be

I get it, but it's Madonna, she wants people to talk about her.

not picking on cosmetic decisions, as stated

if you say "no judgment" yet your post is extremely judgmental, that says a lot about how little accountability you're used to taking for your statements

You're right, it was judgmental. But know this, it was not meant to be harmful. Be that as it may, I take it back if it has caused harm. I do have a poison pen at times, and this is not helpful to anyone, nor productive.

It's possible to comment on someone's changing appearance without mocking them for it. I find her face (and the additional stuff she does, like the gold teeth and the eyebrow bleaching and stark, extreme makeup and whatnot) fascinating, not in an "Oh my god, look at her face! What a tragedy!" way but in more of a "Huh, that's an interesting look" way. I'm actually more interested in it because I don't think it's about allegiance to conventional beauty standards or fear of aging or whatever. It's sort of like what John Waters said about Divine: that he didn't want to be pretty, he wanted to be a monster. If Madonna wants to be a monster (and I don't mean that in a pejorative sense at all, I mean it in a folkloric/mythological sense), that's cool. And I view it as I would any other cosmetic decision — she did it because she knew people would be looking at her and she wanted them to see her in a certain way, the same as if she'd gotten a big, obvious tattoo. So look at it! Have thoughts about it! But you can't condemn without knowing the reasons why. And unfortunately there are no interviewers capable of having a real, serious, interesting discussion about it with her without coming off like finger-pointing assholes.

There are photos where she looks pretty close to what she used to look like, photos where she looks like a 64-year-old woman who's almost certainly had some work done, and photos where she looks like a cross between Genesis P'Orridge and Orlan. And that's great! And here's why!

yeah something I've noticed about that sort of extensive surgery is there are always some angles where they look fine but when you look from a different angle or change the lighting suddenly everything looks off. that's a thing with Elon Musk too

who knows why she does any of the things she does, I think people forget that Madonna was sort of on the same level as Michael Jackson, there ain't no human being on the planet like 'em. agree though that it would be cool if an interviewer could take her seriously and try to find out
