so many are like "keep building" bro youre a project manager at a public company calm down

so much "i admire your work you're amazing" etc, it's real sad stuff. but lots of solid zings in there however.

I work for a reasonably large, publicly-held corporation and have coworkers who date back to the time, pre-buyouts and mergers, when it was a much smaller private company and worked in the same office. They have (or in most cases, had) a genuine enthusiasm for the products/services they developed, felt like they had a stake in their work, and genuinely believed in the brand as corny as that sounds

It's just utterly foreign to the 2023 job market and idk maybe that way of life still exists somewhere but to think that twitter dot com is one of those places is absolutely bonkers to me

So my hypothesis went like this: Twitter is using invisible subreddits via Topics to algorithmically organize tweets. Because the For You page isn’t chronological anymore, viral tweets can’t be as timely as they used to be. They have to be kind of evergreen. It helps if they’re commenting on something that’s already going viral. And it really helps if you post a thread, reply to yourself, or create some kind of discussion in the replies. There also seems to be a bigger emphasis on video now.

Anyways, I can safely say I understand how Twitter works now. It’s basically just Reddit moving at the speed of Tumblr.

xxp that’s fair and it’s rude of me to speculate, but I did read the entire series of tweets about her experience and it wasn’t necessarily painted in a negative light, just something she moved past

maybe there are aspects of my upbringing that make the SV mindset foreign to me just as there are aspects of either her adult life or perhaps her childhood that make that mindset appealing to her. she draws a line herself between what she’s learned from her experiences and her business/personal philosophy

and, as caek mentioned, there are better targets for actual ire when it comes to former twitter employees, it’s just the narrative thread of Crawford’s recent online posts that is tempting to unravel. I don’t think there’s a lot to unravel or, as I said, questions to answer. If you keep reading her posts, she answered them all already
