italian tow-away sign

ꙮ (map), Monday, 3 April 2023 18:37 (one year ago) link

i'm guessing it's northern italy based on the evergreens?

ꙮ (map), Monday, 3 April 2023 18:39 (one year ago) link

maybe not tho idk

Yes looking a lot less southern in this pic. It looks like a new-build train station somewhere rural, presumably just outside a city. I don't know about Italy, but in France, the newer TGV lines often have their stations somewhere rural, a short drive from the town/city it's associated with. Maybe Italy has something similar so we'd be looking at a relatively recently built high-speed rail station.

I may be wrong but the structure on the right (second pic) looks like a passageway for people and bikes to jump over a main road or highway, with the separators in the middle. Autostrada signs are green in Italy though.
Climate looks too dry for Northern Italy on first pic (olive trees and cacti, dry river). Pretty derelict infrastructure too.

Doesn't southern Spain have a lot of those unfinished type "oops, we went bankrupt before we could finish building your holiday villa" type regions?

StanM, Tuesday, 4 April 2023 12:48 (one year ago) link

Oh man, I have BEEN in the roundabout in Oroville— I lived in Chico for a while, I immediately recognized it.

I still don't know what I'm looking at here I'm afraid - a raised railway viaduct over maybe flood plains? (but the houses and this road are on this level too) & the Harm Chef graffiti doesn't ring a bell either :(

Looks like a stadium in the distance from the view under the bridge (white curved spires). Photo above possibly at same stadium.

We're in Bari

nashwan, Monday, 24 April 2023 18:07 (one year ago) link

Streetview of III

That tow sign really helped here - I initially thought Zaragoza or similar but watching too much GeoWizard has got me inspecting motorway furniture and whatnot these days and that seemed to indicate Italy also. Had to check various stadio and it's not such an obvious one as the club's no Serie A mainstay.

I kept looking at Bari but obviously not hard enough. Well done!

without googling street signs it looks a little like zagreb or belgrade

micah, Wednesday, 19 July 2023 16:12 (nine months ago) link

xp also italy but those apartment blocks look post-soviet to me? scrub and trees in the far left bg feel north mediterranean. but also far enough south for non-sloped roofs.

ꙮ (map), Wednesday, 19 July 2023 16:13 (nine months ago) link

the chevrons are wrong for italy as well

micah, Thursday, 20 July 2023 02:42 (nine months ago) link

I think the hills in the background look a bit too dry and scrubby to be Germany. I'm wondering about the south of France? Several towns in that region have tram/light rail networks, and I think that's a tram station to the left of the roundabout. France also has red chevron signs. The apartment blocks do look a bit Soviet, but I've seen similar in Marseille.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 20 July 2023 03:18 (nine months ago) link

Peugeot and a Citröen in the traffic, the sign at the left says something like "emergence" if I squint.

assert (matttkkkk), Thursday, 20 July 2023 03:49 (nine months ago) link

Yep I thought I made out a "ce" ending there as well which is obviously common in French.

did germany disappear?

koogs, Thursday, 20 July 2023 10:26 (nine months ago) link

yes it disappeared from street view. there is not much coverage of germany and what does exist dates from 2011 or earlier.

micah, Thursday, 20 July 2023 12:35 (nine months ago) link

french roundabouts seem to have white arrows on a round blue sign instead of chevrons

micah, Thursday, 20 July 2023 13:49 (nine months ago) link

croatia definitely has (some) trams and red arrows on their roundabouts.

a holistic digital egosystem (ledge), Thursday, 20 July 2023 15:02 (nine months ago) link

I want to say Poland because that roundabout's construction is similar to this one that got memed when a car flew over it, but drawing blanks rn.

II

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Tuesday, 1 August 2023 13:06 (eight months ago) link

Second pic looks very distinctive - unusual hill, parallel roads with a tram track in the middle, maybe railway sidings off to the side and a power plant in the distance? I'm not about to trawl over all of europe or even croatia (my personal guess) for it.

crutch of england (ledge), Tuesday, 15 August 2023 07:41 (eight months ago) link

so II is a view of the roundabout in I, and maybe III is on the roof of II?

Yellow plant bottom right is I think Herb Bennett which makes it NA or Europe.

Tattoo seems to read "I love my Momy". Can't find a reference to an area which uses that as a common term so is it maybe a reference to the French Pyrenean town?

Just so there's a guess out there I'm going to say the biggest city closest to Momy which is Bayonne.
