I lived in the Austin area for three years and somehow never entered a Bucees

It’s funny that he has to call him a pederast because they’ve been using ‘groomer’ and ‘paedo’ to mean something else.

Buc-ee's is much newer than that. I've had fairly positive experiences there, spacious clean bathrooms and no lines, but it's been several years since I've been to one, so I'm sure it's gone downhill. Might also depend on the specific location. I also know for a fact that the unusual candy selection, which was a big draw for me, has been greatly reduced in recent years.

I only know about bucees because of a tweet the other week from someone in the UK aghast that the salary for a manager at a car wash was 3x the average professional salary for someone in the UK (it was like 105k/yr) and lots of people had to tell him this wasn't just some little gas station carwash, and also yes UK salaries fucking suck

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Sunday, 9 April 2023 00:53 (one year ago) link

What kind of “professional” salary?

What working at Buc-ee's is like. People who should know better here in Texas love those shitholes. I'll never set foot in one again.

A new ABC/Ipsos poll pegs Trump's favorable rating at just 25%.

This has been a bad poll for Trump, but I'm not sure we've seen a number that low in any poll since early in/before the 2016 campaign. pic.twitter.com/lSKbd4wxgv

I’m pretty sure the President can’t pardon themselves but I’m also pretty sure Trump would 100% try to

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 11 April 2023 14:54 (one year ago) link

Meantime...

Spotted going through security at the DC federal courthouse: Stephen Miller. Miller was part of a recent order rebuffing Trump's challenge to Jan. 6 grand jury testimony from former senior aides on executive privilege grounds https://t.co/pMQF9u8nIQ

— Zoe Tillman (@ZoeTillman) April 11, 2023

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 April 2023 16:36 (one year ago) link

Trump's final Hail Mary to prevent testimony from others on his end is the appeal about Pence's testimony on an executive privilege basis; Pence and his team have said they got what they wanted in the earlier ruling from the legislative ending so that's all that's left. Given all previous appeals have failed -- which is why Miller's there today -- I'm guessing that's about that. (Of course, Miller et al can just take the Fifth, but that's the point -- it's their core and deserved right on the one hand, but they will have formally answered in a court context on the other as opposed to avoiding testimony entirely.)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 April 2023 16:40 (one year ago) link

biggest q: why _didnt_ trump pardon himself? the rules of if ur not cheatin u aint tryin demand it. what a cuck.

I bet that ad made Trump hungry.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 14 April 2023 18:58 (one year ago) link

PAC money still shields the actual candidate when the mud-flinging gets too much to stomach. The whole "I'm Senator Goober McFleece and I approved this message" only shows up on the nicey-nice ads. Otherwise it's always "Senator Lousewort eats babies -- paid for by Citizens for Government Excellence".

I love that DeSantis hasn't even announced yet, and it's already come to this

Let the circular firing squad begin!

"Ron DeSantis claims he is 'not even running for President'. How can the public be expected to vote for a guy who says he isn't running?"

Will.I.Am's fetid urine (Neanderthal), Friday, 14 April 2023 19:11 (one year ago) link

also btw I know how unreliable polling is this early before a primary but DeSantis is getting thoroughly destroyed, like it doesn't seem like he has much chance.

he seems more likely to prop up another candidate or just fall behind Trump eventually, like Cruz did

he prob believed the hype for a while when the media was lining behind him but reality has to be setting in now, just gotta hope trumps in jail or dead

lag∞n, Friday, 14 April 2023 19:28 (one year ago) link

to be fair I believe this was the point in the cycle where Rudy Guiliani had like a 10 point lead so who knows. the GOP wasn't a cult of personality the way it is now though. kinda sucks that Trump is running away with it because this whole thing has the potential to get very ugly in a way that is actually good for Democrats

frogbs, Friday, 14 April 2023 19:37 (one year ago) link

like I think pudding fingers is probably an effective ad but it plays right into one of the GOP's biggest problems, which is that they're really fucking weird in ways that are clearly turning voters off

frogbs, Friday, 14 April 2023 19:38 (one year ago) link

DeSantis is young enough to wait it out and run next time tho

Trump and Biden need to run because they don't have another cycle in them

doja catharsis (Ye Mad Puffin), Friday, 14 April 2023 19:47 (one year ago) link

to be fair I believe this was the point in the cycle where Rudy Guiliani had like a 10 point lead so who knows. the GOP wasn't a cult of personality the way it is now though.

Rudy Giuliani had literally nothing going for him beyond "cult of personality" so I'm not sure I see the connection between your first and second sentences. (Also, the Republicans have been a cult of personality since Reagan. Bush I only got in because he had spent four years sitting at Saint Reagan's right hand.)

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 14 April 2023 19:52 (one year ago) link

Meantime should be noted that Trump's various hail Marys to try and stop the E Jean Carroll trial from starting a week from Monday are pretty much nonstarters; there's a little bit of extra stuff that'll have to happen but doesn't seem like there will be any further change there. Like Fox, all the dodging and weaving is for naught.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 April 2023 19:53 (one year ago) link

he won by a landslide even during an election cycle where Republicans vastly underperformed. you could argue his star is never gonna be brighter than it is right now. if he's getting crushed by a dude with 15 active criminal investigations maybe it's just not gonna happen for him.
