Even beyond the end of his life.

I think the fact that he didn't show up once, not even on the first day, must've not done him any favors with the jury

maybe this is the greatest witch hunt of all time. I'm feeling pretty psyched about it right now anyway

massive respect to E. Jean Carroll though, I'm particularly glad the jury decided he defamed her

sure is nice of CNN to reward him with a bunch of free airtime to say whatever he wants, given he spent his entire term shitting on them constantly

frogbs, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 19:47 (eleven months ago) link

On the other hand, CNN will get exclusive rights to the start of whatever defamation case he sets in motion next.

DeSantis should immediately call out Trump as a sexual predator, so Trump will be forced to respond by insulting his wife or something, please throw a can of kerosene on this upcoming dumpster fire called the GOP presidential nomination

welp RIP DeSantis I guess

frogbs, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 20:02 (eleven months ago) link

I know DeSantis is a garbage candidate and scared of Trump and his followers, but if he refuses to use this, then he just does not want to win.

going after Trump would mean ignoring the anti-reality shield the GOP has so meticulously built up these past few years and siding with....fact checkers and the media

frogbs, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 20:09 (eleven months ago) link

Every single opportunity these GOP dummies have had to sever ties with Trump, or sideline Trump, they have instead turned up the volume of their support. At this point I suspect, go figure, they just kind of like him in all his criminal, corrupt glory.

Geraldo knows which way the wind is blowing, this is not going to just disappear or be forgotten about.

I dunno, the party has become so stupidly, blindly ugly and contrarian that it would not shock me if they pushed to decriminalize sexual assault. And justified it as somehow protecting children.

I don't know what this changes or affects in the long term, but fuck yes this is good. Good for E. Jean Carroll for standing up to him, she never had to say a word about this and risked a fair amount by doing it. She deserves every penny.

Also, in re the long term, there's no way it doesn't hurt him. Whether other Republicans use it against him or not, Democrats and progressive outside groups definitely will. I imagine there'll be an anti-Trump spot just featuring her.

more like they can't wait to attend his funeral, where they will conspicuously weep, overpraise him, and throw bouquets of flowers on his grave, then immediately start brawling to see who succeeds him.

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 20:23 (eleven months ago) link

Doesn't matter, this is just learned behavior. Work the system, run out the clock. Maybe he hopes Carroll will die still waiting on his money.

I really really don't wanna turn into POLITICO hack here.

Let's celebrate the justice rendered to this woman without worrying about the consequences to Trump. Lechera otm.

True and Iโ€™m here for some bleak celebration of this one victory, feel free to join me.

If you can keep your nightmarish hypotheses to yourselves for one day that would be great. Even a couple hours to let it sink in that he was held responsible for his vile behavior by a jury.

Otm, and sexual assault is basically already decriminalised in some areas going by conviction rates ffs. This is a good outcome!

Good for her. Jury service is important. The defamation finding is significant.

It's somewhat of an open issue whether you can get a prior restraint on specific speech that has been found to be defamatory, but you can see he is already being forced to change his wording.
