June 30, 2000, Braves at Mets: First Braves game at Shea after John Rocker's notorious racist and homophobic comments about the 7 Train. Vendors were selling t-shirts depicting Rocker's face with a subway car coming out of his mouth and they had to cover the visitor's bullpen with a net to protect it.

Mets, down 8-1, score 10 runs in the bottom of the 8th, 9 of those runs with 2 outs, capped by a 3-run HR by Piazza.

Shea went absolutely nuts and the buildup to the comeback was incredible.

My post above was nagging at me yesterday. The thing I most remember about the game I'm trying to pinpoint (36 years ago...) is that there was an on-field injury to one of the Jays around second base. So I think the game I saw was two nights earlier, the opening game of the same series, where Tony Fernandez got taken out by Bill Madlock, ending his season. So it was memorable in the sense that it was a close game (4-3) that brought the Jays very close to clinching the division (they wouldn't) in front of 40,000 people in old Exhibition Stadium, but it wasn't the 10-9 game. And I doubt it's on YouTube.
