I guess the long-term play for DeSantis right now is to hope that all this stuff does make Trump look less and less electable, so that if the Trump fever ever breaks Dr. Ron is right there. It's just so hard to imagine that really happening.

And of course DeSantis can't be too brazen about trying to capitalize on any of it. Like, you would think that your opponent facing multiple criminal indictments in multiple jurisdictions would be the most obvious attack point. But apart from Asa Hutchison none of them want to do that. What an insane time.

BREAKING: A superseding indictment has been filed with new charges against Donald Trump.— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) July 27, 2023
Justice Department: The superseding indictment also charges Trump, De Oliveira and Nauta with two new obstruction counts based on allegations that the defendants attempted to delete surveillance video footage at The Mar-a-Lago Club in summer 2022.— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) July 27, 2023

This also suggests that, as in other legal matters, Trump is making his attorneys take absurd positions that will just make them look bad in the front of the judge. It's one thing to do that in a civil case, but in a criminal case, you might want to listen to your attorneys. https://t.co/MTKGP0wxfg— Secrets and Laws (@secretsandlaws) July 27, 2023

The expanded indictment against Trump includes a detailed and incredibly damning articulation of how his team allegedly tried to bury security footage. I walked through it. https://t.co/E2GA0ZMm7B— Philip Bump (@pbump) July 28, 2023
We now come to one of the most intriguing new parts of the indictment.“Between 1:31 p.m. and 1:50 p.m., DE OLIVEIRA walked through the bushes on the northern edge of The Mar-a-Lago Club property to meet with NAUTA on the adjacent property,” the indictment alleges, “then walked back to the IT office that he had visited that morning; and then walked again through the bushes on the northern edge of The Mar-a-Lago Club property to meet with NAUTA on the adjacent property.”There are a few possible reasons for this weird (alleged) interaction. One is that Nauta was engaged in some activity off the Mar-a-Lago grounds and simply couldn’t come closer to De Oliveira. Another is that Nauta didn’t want to been recorded as having visited Mar-a-Lago that day, either by Secret Service or other employees. Another is that Nauta and De Oliveira — by now very aware that the federal government was interested in movements at the facility — were eager not to be observed. Remember that De Oliveira’s conversation with the IT staffer took place not in the staffer’s office or a hallway but, instead, in a small nearby room. That people can gain access to Mar-a-Lago by slipping through the bushes is, of course, a subject that probably deserves more consideration, too.

In October of last year, the room were the surveillance footage was stored on a server was flooded as the nearby pool was being drained. This was likely after the subpoenaed footage had been turned over to investigators and it doesn’t appear that the server was damaged...the staffer responsible for draining the pool and accidentally flooding the room was none other than Carlos De Oliveira.
This part reminds me of that commercial where the woman tries to trash her ex's beloved SUV by having it pushed off a cliff, but of course the thing rolls over and over and emerges from a cloud of dust unscathed, to the woman's anguished chagrin.
