East Coast beaches do not seem like beaches (as I know them).

i grew up spending every summer camping on beaches from Baja to Big Sur and now for the last 20 years Cape Cod and down to the Outer Banks. There's so much to enjoy in all those places for different reasons.

East Coast beaches are nice if you are able to temper your expectations about what a beach is supposed to be

They seem like national parks or nature preserves or amusement parks, but I haven't been to many. The sand doesn't seem as fine-grained, and the waves and the water are different. That is not to say that any kind of beach is better or worse.

Conversely, growing up on East Coast beaches I find West Coast beaches all weird and cold and dramatic. East Coast beaches are warm and you can just wade into the surf without being knocked down, they're mostly very friendly.

Maybe there needs to be "Beach, please" thread where we all get to uncloak our takes on intersections betwixt sea and sand. Personally I have said what I wish to say and I am tired.

When I was a kid and learning to swim, I took lessons out at the local lake. It was one of those two week boot camp style things. Anyway, on the last day we were supposed to have a swimming test at the beach, and I walked two blocks down and about a hundred yards beyond the swim area there was a boat going around in a circle with no one at the helm. Apparently, whoever had been at the helm somehow fell overboard and the boat boomeranged back around and went over him and he died instantly. So his body was floating out there with the boat kind of circling around it and I guess sometimes over it, and the authorities had yet to arrive to stop it. So I never did have that last swim lesson. Never went in the water there again. It wasn't a very nice beach anyway. For Midwest beaches I always preferred the ones I'd go swimming in while vacationing in minnesota.

I went up to a couple lakes all the way by Ely, white iron lake and garden lake. vv nice spots.

It was pretty messed up but unless I totally blocked it out I don't recall seeing anything particularly grisly. It's one of those memories I forget but then something sparks it.

actually you know what i just repeated both to myself in a long island accent and just saying the letters was better

tbf people in new york dont talk about the el eye are are that much but sometimes they do it stopped close to my place i took it at least once

I lived in NYC for ~10 years and honestly think I've only ever hear it pronounced as "the train"

I didn't realize it was the Dunphy lawsuit and that article barely touches upon the many, many, many terrible things that went on

I don't have the prior articles handy, but the jist is that Giuliani met this woman who was going through a rough time and strung her along as a not-quite-assistant that he would share all kinds of confidential info with her, refuse to actually put her on payroll, and just slipped her cash occasionally while treating her terribly (and likely highly illegally) as a not-quite-assistant not-quite-girlfriend

She has my sympathies although "I really need to move forward in life, Rudy Giuliani seems like he's moving up in the world" is not exactly the best starting point

When I lived in NYC, we tried to avoid going to Long Island.

There is some chatter as to why that Jeffrey Clark asshole has been walking free for the last few years, despite so many eyewitnesses to his reported crimes, criminality or general assholery.
