An incapacitated Trump would be, all things considered, the nightmare of a "Trump, but this time more competent" scenario come true

fair but so uncool beliefs here (Eric H.), Monday, 14 August 2023 19:10 (eight months ago) link

Can he make a plea bargain to have all charges dropped in exchange for halting his presidential campaign/

He would never do this imo, because his entire argument is that he's done nothing wrong and Dems are bringing these trials solely to disrupt his campaign.

Press the bell once to approve the bill, twice to veto.

no, once again, pressing the bell 7 times doesn't mean anything.

xpost He'd ring the bell and just poop his pants.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 August 2023 19:19 (eight months ago) link

I've said this before, but I'd be 100% in favor of his being completely paralyzed, unable to move or speak, and be forced to watch Obama's 2012 roast of him on an endless loop for the rest of his miserable days.

I prefer these trials happen after the election, because I want him to be rejected by the voters and lose again (please). It will cause more harm to his ego and image, plus he still gets to face four trials immediately. Then after he is found guilty at all four trials, I would prefer he die in a completely embarrassing, public, and self-inflicted way.

Has the jury considered that it was a perfect phone call?

Could Trump be denied bail in Georgia? Their laws on these things are somewhat more...Southern than those of the courts in which he's previously been indicted.

Weissmann: let me give you the exact words because this is the provision that the court has to find to release someone on bail in Georgia which is that the defendant poses no risk of intimidating witnesses, or otherwise obstructing the administration of justice. pic.twitter.com/UbAxKZTGN7

Supposedly the courthouse usually closes at 5pm sharp, but reportedly the grand jury is still in session.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 August 2023 21:29 (eight months ago) link

From a quarter-hour back via NYT

Judge McBurney appears again in the courtroom and tells reporters, “You didn’t go get dinner, you should have gotten dinner.” (No argument here.) Then he turns to two deputies in the courtroom and says, “There’s really only one other thing that’s going to happen today.” Asked if that means that an indictment is coming tonight, he cryptically says: “I guess you’ll have to wait and see.”

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 August 2023 21:41 (eight months ago) link

Could Trump be denied bail in Georgia?

First question in my mind would be whether the prosecutor specifically asks the court for denial of bail, which would take levels of chutzpah rarely observed in nature. Only then would I consider the exact wording of GA law.

Geoff Duncan, after testifying to grand jury: "If we want to win an election in 2024, it's gonna have to be somebody other than Donald Trump."

Following his testimony to the grand jury, former Georgia lieutenant governor Geoff Duncan (R) said he thinks it’s time for the Republicans to “pivot” away from Donald Trump to win. Follow along for live updates. https://t.co/QhBIB8d4kO pic.twitter.com/Pew4xi4Gij

The sort of things Republicans say when they are former office holders who are not currently running for office and have written a book about moving the GOP beyond Trump.

He has all the motivations he obviously has, but he is also speaking with the benefit of knowing what he got asked at the grand jury. Not that it's much of a mystery, obv.

ten indictments

J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Tuesday, 15 August 2023 01:29 (eight months ago) link

CNN:

Fulton County court clerk Che Alexander confirmed to reporters congregated in her office that there are 10 indictments from the grand jury on Monday night. She would not say who was indicted.

The grand jury's certification, handled in the clerk's office, also indicates that it approved 10 indictments on Monday, according to paperwork signed on camera.

TV cameras captured Judge Robert McBurney signing documents in his courtroom after they were handled in the clerk's office, but the images of the paperwork were captured before the judge gave his signature.

The paperwork indicates the grand jury didn't vote against any of the indictments presented to it on Monday. The paperwork also doesn't list any defendant names.

Before indictments were handed up by the grand jury, Alexander told reporters that it could take her office as long as three hours to process any indictments before they are unsealed and made available to the public.
