My man, you are better off with out her. Every one here is piling on and it's ridiculous. I had a partner that was exactly like this, her pattern of emotional abuse was to specifically ask what I wanted so she could deny it. She had it out for you and when you didn't blow up like she wanted she blew up herself. In any context, asking someone what they want, and then specifically doing something else so you can hold your (volunteered) effort over them so that the man is the bad guy. It's bullshit dude, you are better off without her and everyone in these comments is acting like someone doing something for you is always good, she is acting like an abuser and you disserve better.

devil's food with nuts is objectively the best donut (southern california donut style division) but I think it's true that a devil's food cake generally is a devil's food cake. but it's also been pointed out onthread that the cookbook definition of devil's food has a layer of vanilla frosting so my bro is just genuinely embarrassing

It's okay to feel mildly disappointed because you didn't get the birthday cake you wanted. Part of being a functional adult is recognizing that that disappointment is a silly trifle for you to process internally rather than something that you should broadcast to the entire world because you're a thirtysomething who should literally be wearing a diaper because you presumably piss and shit all over yourself over the slightest infraction.

What's most unsettling to me is the multiple people in the thread I saw who don't see a problem with the "if you went to a restaurant..." analogy about a cake your girlfriend makes you (assuming she wasn't charging him, which now I hope she was)

If I went to a restaurant and the chef made me something different than what I asked for, I would drive to her house and tell her children she was a failure.

Twitter main character is a post from a subreddit of people volunteering to be the main character. That’s how you know twitter no longer has the juice.

I don't know if it was just my algorithm on my feed but there seemed to be a racial element to the division, with most of the defenders of the guy being black - first of all Roxane Gay and a psychologist then lots of random tweeters. That made me think again about my initial reaction - not that I was going to change my mind but rather than be too judgemental myself maybe there are interesting cultural factors at play here.

I'm not sure how many of the people attacking the guy actually think the woman did nothing wrong. If I were her I'd definitely not have ignored his wishes having asked him what he wanted, but I'd probably never have offered to bake a cake in the first place so AITA? Also trying to imagine being someone who gave a shit about the icing being wrong on my cake is quite a mental stretch. What would I do in his situation if I thought it was so important? Probably hold my tongue and harbour simmering resentment.

The root weirdness to me is the requirements he laid out at the start - if a partner says "I'm gonna bake you a cake" my only response is "that's awesome, thank you!"

I don't like pie - show up to my birthday with a Key Lime Pie and I'll eat a piece like it's the best thing ever.

during lockdown we hosted an American kid at our house (his private school had closed their dorms) and I have never had to deal with such a fussy eater, of course I just gave him the four or five foods he would eat but then my own kids were asking "why can't we have burgers/hot dogs/pizza every day?" and I would have to have private conversations with them later to explain why not.

(sure there are plenty of British kids like this too, but in terms of food mine are 90% Chinese)

Don't know if this is happening to anyone else, but over the last day or two it keeps switching back to the For You tab over and over, even though I only want to look at Following

For a long time I listened to everyone's complaints about the For You tab, smugly quiet about the fact mine was actually quite good and interesting. Some switch has been flicked in the last few days and not only am I getting some awful people on there, I'm getting deluged with stupid blue tick viral video accounts about cats and what not. Only thing I've changed at my end is blocking a lot of the blue accounts (I used to just mute) so maybe I'm getting punished for that.

I've also had that the last couple of days, after a month's-long period where it would always say it was on For You but actually be on Following

Looking at it, it seems blue and gold ticks account for more than 95% of the For You feed now so I maybe that's the simplest explanation.

laptop twitter very occasionally switches me to "for you" -- with a little recent flurry after a long time apparently resignedly accepting my preference

phone twitter has NEVER ONCE switched me to "for you" -- to the extent that i half wondered if this firmness of purpose acted as a kind of anchor for my account lol (i have no idea how or whether this is possible)

i follow about 250 people, and i would guess half of them have just stopped posting in the past year, maybe another 25% posting way less. so i've been looking at "for you" a bit more than i used to, but it's so bad.

the one redeeming feature "for you" had (occasionally you see a cool reply from someone you follow to someone you don't) is gone because conversational threads are finished among people i follow (presumably blue check spam).

Subreddits have been quoted on twitter for ever.

It's actually pretty good as a means of checking on the 'health' of other social media. So you don't see much of Insta being quoted on twitter these days, but you see a lot of funny to deranged stuff being reposted from tik tok.
