For a long time I listened to everyone's complaints about the For You tab, smugly quiet about the fact mine was actually quite good and interesting. Some switch has been flicked in the last few days and not only am I getting some awful people on there, I'm getting deluged with stupid blue tick viral video accounts about cats and what not. Only thing I've changed at my end is blocking a lot of the blue accounts (I used to just mute) so maybe I'm getting punished for that.

I've also had that the last couple of days, after a month's-long period where it would always say it was on For You but actually be on Following

Looking at it, it seems blue and gold ticks account for more than 95% of the For You feed now so I maybe that's the simplest explanation.
― Alba, Monday, 28 August 2023 12:16 (eight months ago) link
laptop twitter very occasionally switches me to "for you" -- with a little recent flurry after a long time apparently resignedly accepting my preference
phone twitter has NEVER ONCE switched me to "for you" -- to the extent that i half wondered if this firmness of purpose acted as a kind of anchor for my account lol (i have no idea how or whether this is possible)
― mark s, Monday, 28 August 2023 12:21 (eight months ago) link
i follow about 250 people, and i would guess half of them have just stopped posting in the past year, maybe another 25% posting way less. so i've been looking at "for you" a bit more than i used to, but it's so bad.
the one redeeming feature "for you" had (occasionally you see a cool reply from someone you follow to someone you don't) is gone because conversational threads are finished among people i follow (presumably blue check spam).

Twitter main character is a post from a subreddit of people volunteering to be the main character. Thatβs how you know twitter no longer has the juice.
β π ππ’π¨ (caek), Monday, 28 August 2023 bookmarkflaglink
Subreddits have been quoted on twitter for ever.
It's actually pretty good as a means of checking on the 'health' of other social media. So you don't see much of Insta being quoted on twitter these days, but you see a lot of funny to deranged stuff being reposted from tik tok.

niedermeyer on bsky: "Just read this entire excerpt from the upcoming Walter Isaacson book on Elon Musk, and am gratified to report that no amount of friendly spin can keep him from coming across as an incredibly off-putting, unhealthy, vindictive weirdo. The punchline is that Elon couldn't get out of overpaying for Twitter by tens of billions of dollars so he made up for it by screwing Twitter execs out of $200m in severance and stock options and called it a W. You know, real Ben Franklin, Albert Einstein, Leonardo DaVinci shit. Good going, Walter."

That led Bankman-Fried to call Musk in May. βMy bullshit detector went off like red alert on a Geiger counter,β Musk says. Bankman-Fried began talking rapidly, all about himself. βHe was talking like he was on speed or Adderall, a mile a minute,β Musk says. βI thought he was supposed to be asking me questions about the deal, but he kept telling me the things he was doing. And I was thinking, βDude, calm down.ββ The feeling was mutual; Bankman-Fried thought Musk seemed nuts. The call lasted a half hour, and Bankman-Fried ended up neither investing nor rolling over his Twitter stock.
