Our military, thank God, consists of a lot of non-white and non-Cis-male people in positions of power who would probably not look favorably on going along with a white supremacist dictatorship coup attempt.

Except our military also consists of a lot of white supremacists and white supremacist supporters so I'm not secure in my confidence that there will always be a check in place there.

I think the combined Armed Forces average is quite a bit higher in black sailors/soldiers/guardsmen etc.

I'm not arguing that every white person in the military is sympathetic to Nazis, jfc. Nor am I arguing that a coup from the Nazi-doused military is around the corner. But I think it's overly hopeful to pretend that the US military is this shining example of diversity that will protect us unquestioningly from creeping fascism across the board, the military, like the police, is pretty well known for attracting Nazi sympathetic types.

Who here said “the military is the only thing that will save us from fascism” rather than pointing out that it may not be a reliable tool for a fascist regime, especially one that has white supremacy as its base. I’ve also thought that what Tuberville wants an all-white, all-male military but the horse has left that barn.

It’s a mixed bag for sure but I do know some current or ex military officers and they are very anti-Trump. They see him as a threat to the Constitution. He probably has more support from farther down the ranks.

Biden Democrats serve the military's interests every bit as much as Republicans and more than Trump Republicans. If it had been Bernie or someone promising to trim military budgets, the love of the Constitution probably gets a good deal shakier.

I remember thinking back in '16 that a defense sec with the nickname "mad dog" (without knowing fuck all about him) within a Trump administration probably means lol we're all going to die, possibly much sooner than we might expect. But he resigned after not much time and obv hates Trump to this day. If you can't get the "mad dogs" on side amongst military top brass your dreams of dictatorship are going to be an uphill battle - with treacle in your boots.

Missing a request for a jury trial is pretty much per se malpractice.

forgetting who the defendant is in this case, is a jury trial usually advantageous for the defence in a civil case?

I am not a lawyer, but in this case the judge gets to decide punishment (right?), and he's kind of tipped his hand a little by already establishing guilt. Also, there's no way to get, say, a deadlocked judge.
