Biden Democrats serve the military's interests every bit as much as Republicans and more than Trump Republicans. If it had been Bernie or someone promising to trim military budgets, the love of the Constitution probably gets a good deal shakier.

watching those idiots at the debate the other night gives me some real hope that Trumpism will die with Trump... there will always be right-wing nuts and populists, but whatever his thing is, his appeal - it's a one man band
― Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 29 September 2023 23:46 (seven months ago) link
I remember thinking back in '16 that a defense sec with the nickname "mad dog" (without knowing fuck all about him) within a Trump administration probably means lol we're all going to die, possibly much sooner than we might expect. But he resigned after not much time and obv hates Trump to this day. If you can't get the "mad dogs" on side amongst military top brass your dreams of dictatorship are going to be an uphill battle - with treacle in your boots.

Struggle with one foe long enough, you eventually start sounding like your enemy.
Wait, that didn't sound Star Wars-y enough. Needs more Yoda.
Struggle with the Trump Side you may, but... forever will it dominate your destiny.
If you strike him down, he will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
Let the Trump flow through your veins, Joe. Feel the power of the Trump Side.

I would much rather he be electrocuted, then his corpse eaten by a shark. This would be the most respectful of his dying wish.

Trump isn’t getting a jury trial in his $250m civil fraud suit brought against him by New York AG James because one of his lawyers overlooked submitting the routine request/checking boxes on the form, per two people familiar https://t.co/7zvUfytiEr— Hugo Lowell (@hugolowell) October 2, 2023

Lol, apparently the prosecution leads with an Eric deposition, where he refuses to take responsibility. Then DJTJ, who does the same. Then Donald, who throws Weisselberg under the bus. It's a shame this isn't on TV, because I have a hunch there are going to be lots of awesome deposition clips of Trump and his two squirming scions.

forgetting who the defendant is in this case, is a jury trial usually advantageous for the defence in a civil case?
― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 2 October 2023 16:44 (seven months ago) link
I am not a lawyer, but in this case the judge gets to decide punishment (right?), and he's kind of tipped his hand a little by already establishing guilt. Also, there's no way to get, say, a deadlocked judge.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 2 October 2023 16:47 (seven months ago) link
could swing either way I'd think--a jury sometimes hands down a huge $$ judgement that a judge probably wouldn't, but also a judge is less likely to be swayed by your bullshit if you're obviously guilty.
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Monday, 2 October 2023 16:48 (seven months ago) link
I am just presuming Trump would like a shot at getting some of his ppl on a jury. Judge apparently isn't one.
― il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Monday, 2 October 2023 16:48 (seven months ago) link

― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 2 October 2023 17:11 (seven months ago) link
when you are having a bench trial, best thing you can do is slag off the judge and call the AG "racist" outside the court - every little bit helps!

If I had to vaguely guess, besides being that's the only way he thinks, some part of him/the lawyers might be hoping for a 'see if we rile them up they'll act badly in response and then we can claim they really are biased.' But this does not strike me as very sound.

Does that mean a likely appeal or retrial?
Neither. It's a civil trial, not criminal, so it has no effect on the outcome (no right to effective counsel in a civil trial). But theoretically Trump might have a civil cause of action against the attorney for malpractice.
