starting to grow Perot ears

I was about to post a picture of that genetically modified rat with an ear growing out of its back, but it was horrifying, even by the standards of Eric Trump.

one’s a hideous abomination formed by unholy meddling with the natural order, the other is a genetically modified rat etc etc

Trump, on Truth Social, is attacking Judge Engoron's *clerk," — who is literally in the courtroom with him — while calling her "Chuck Schumer's girlfriend" and posting a link to her Instagram account.

I suspect this will be an exhibit in some gag order arguments.

they seem to be tiptoeing around a gag order in all of the cases because he's a presidential candidate, perhaps when a witness or a court official ends up dead they might think he's gone a bit too far this time!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 17:44 (seven months ago) link

Can't believe this has to keep being said but can we maybe focus on Trump's being a hateful, racist, fraudulent wannabe-dictator and maybe not crack jokes about his weight, as those won't hurt him but might make others feel shit?

Lumpy pillows, kiss my ass. Put that in your book (stevie), Tuesday, 3 October 2023 18:17 (seven months ago) link

Yup - it's shit like making fun of people's weight that is the reason we hate Trump.

peace, man, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 18:23 (seven months ago) link

Agree that there are lots of other avenues to attack that individual.

I am, however, mildly okay with at least some petty snipes at Trump, because he deals in them. And lo, it is written: thou shalt not disheth it out if thou cannot taketh it.

If he is going to deal in petty appearance-based slights about Liddle Marco or about his rape accusers not being Tens, then one can be forgiven for some of the (admittedly pretty juvenile) slights about the size of his hands or his stupid "hair" or the degeneracy of his diet or his ketchup/well-done steak habit or whatever.

Of course I don't condone any line of attack that makes decent, innocemt people feel hurt. But... Trump has taken the low road so many times that I am not sure we're obliged to take the high road where he is concerned.

Whoops!

https://themessenger.com/politics/trump-gag-order-new-york-engoron-clerk-truth-social

It's notable that the judge has clearly let Trump skate on all the venting against himself, but as soon as Trump did this, the hammer fell. One suspects his lawyers will take the hint in turn. Also: since Don Jr and Eric are part of this as well, they can't be proxies for dad here.

Quoth the judge, "Failure to abide by this order will result in serious sanctions." Saw somewhere that that could mean 30 days in jail.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 19:38 (seven months ago) link

His lawyers probably have a hard enough job keeping the phone out of his stubby little hands during the trial, lest he be actively "truthing" during it.

In theory, a contemnor of a lawful order in a civil case in New York can be fine, or arrested and jailed. It depends how far the contempt goes.

Looks like we are going to find out.

felicity, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 19:40 (seven months ago) link

fined

felicity, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 19:40 (seven months ago) link

Per a Bluesky post from Popehat/Ken White:

Annoying, insulting, or picking on courtroom staff is foolish on an entirely different level than just annoying the judge.

You have NO IDEA the array of things that can start going badly for you. And judges are VERY protective of staff.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 19:41 (seven months ago) link

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 19:42 (seven months ago) link

Separately from legal reporter Adam Klasfeld, attending the trial:

One of the reasons Trump was playing with fire going after *this* clerk:

She's an active participant in Engoron's cases, and she sometimes personally questions the parties. In fact, she grilled Trump's lawyers in critical pre-trial hearings in this case. https://t.co/yxODiZhUeu
