LOL are headlines back on Twitter now?
― Lumpy pillows, kiss my ass. Put that in your book (stevie), Friday, 6 October 2023 08:42 (seven months ago) link
No, only on embeds, because nothing this cunt does works consistently.
― Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Friday, 6 October 2023 08:45 (seven months ago) link
this headlines thing is working opposite to its intent, i'm clicking on the pictures out of curiosity now whereas before i'd read the headline, roll my eyes and scroll on

Plz let me know when Musk eliminates the ability for users to post content as the newest special feature of x.com

there are already enough posts tbrr

they're all getting ratioed while the people dunking on him are getting a bunch of likes, guess it makes sense now
― frogbs, Friday, 6 October 2023 13:14 (seven months ago) link
all in all pretty sad state of things when virtually every change you make gets a universally negative response. i know this has been said a zillion times but its really astonishing how much this dude is just Lowtax with an even worse sense of humor
― frogbs, Friday, 6 October 2023 13:17 (seven months ago) link
say what you like about lowtax, he had a proactive approach to problem solving that musk could learn a lot from

I think Musk deleted that Tweet, so even he sees it's a bad idea
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Friday, 6 October 2023 13:41 (seven months ago) link
i wouldn't take it as a sign that he thinks it's a bad idea, he's just a sulky mf
― no gap tree for old men (Noodle Vague), Friday, 6 October 2023 14:21 (seven months ago) link
Seems almost certain that Musk tweets this shit out on a whim and then whoever's left at Twitter has to try & find a way to make it work.
― groovypanda, Friday, 6 October 2023 15:51 (seven months ago) link
He has some thing now about wanting to make people click into the tweets--like he's going to hide the likes and comments numbers inside--I guess because if you do then you're more likely to read the comments and get mad and reply and etc.
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Friday, 6 October 2023 15:57 (seven months ago) link
does anyone really care how many likes some tweet got, feel like it works the other way around if you see a tweet has a ton of interactions then maybe you look at the comments
― lag∞n, Friday, 6 October 2023 17:25 (seven months ago) link
I'm sure Elon cares
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Friday, 6 October 2023 17:26 (seven months ago) link
i don't know if it's a massive deal except when you're looking to see whether there's a stramash to pile in on, but i'm baffled if i can see how those little counters interfere with readability

Twitter / X is serving users with a new ad format that can't be blocked or reportedthe ads aren't even actual X posts & aren't connected to any X accounts. they do not disclose that they are adsit appears the ads are connected to clickbait ad networks https://t.co/5BbxToARIg pic.twitter.com/aSoUfiSMV6— Matt Binder (@MattBinder) October 6, 2023

Oh my god. When Linda Yaccarino said that Visa was a “returning advertiser” she meant the company spent $10 on Twitter ads in the last 12 weeks. Not ten million. Not ten thousand.Ten dollars. pic.twitter.com/FrqTctoA27— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) October 6, 2023

Who knows the intent but it seems like one thing this would do hide how few interactions a lot of the blue-check posts they're boosting actually have. I think it's true people are more likely to click on things that already have a lot of engagement, so hiding the numbers on the blue-check posts could theoretically help them get more engagement by making it less obvious what losers they are? Anyway, that plus the ad thing feels like an effort to turn Twitter from something more like a tool you could use into a stream of passive content forced on you regardless of your interest. (With the caveat that you can always just quit, of course.)

look there's a dopamine rush associated with getting a ton of likes and RTs making that shit not matter is just gonna further disincentivize users from actually trying to make good shit. i mean like it or not the gamification is sorta central to the platform
― frogbs, Friday, 6 October 2023 22:18 (seven months ago) link
It is, he's just trying to rig the rules of the gamification to favor his trolls. But it won't work because nobody likes them.

― lag∞n, Friday, 6 October 2023 22:32 (seven months ago) link
paying for it is an instant request for wallet inspection so I can't really blame Musk for milking the herd tbh

more from that advertising $ story
During the September 27 interview, Yaccarino also claimed, “In the last 12 weeks alone, about 1,500 advertisers have returned. So whether it is small business or big brands, right? Like AT&T, Visa, Nissan, all returning.” Of those three companies she specifically mentioned, AT&T is the only one that was a top advertiser pre-Musk, and the company has spent just $781 in the last 12 weeks — 99.96% less than the more than $1.77 million it spent during the 12 weeks before Musk’s acquisition.Visa and Nissan are similarly spending just a fraction of what they spent pre-Musk. Visa spent just $10, and Nissan spent just $687, in the last 12 weeks — 99.99% and 99.77% less than they respectively spent during the 12 weeks before Musk’s acquisition.
