Son & Husband of immigrants on immigrants:
“Nobody has any idea where these people are coming from, and we know they come from prisons,” said the former president. “We know they come from mental institutions, insane asylums. We know they’re terrorists.“Nobody has ever seen anything like we’re witnessing right now. It is a very sad thing for our country. It’s poisoning the blood of our country. It’s so bad, and people are coming in with disease. People are coming in with every possible thing that you could have.”

A lot got made of one of his gang of incompetent lawyers, Alina Habba, turning up in court with a gaming laptop, the "2070ti asus laptop with the blue underglow". It's probably more of a tell that it was possibly she who didn't check the jury trial box on the form. Not being sexist here, it could have been another one that fucked that up. But fair to say she doesn't project legal competence by insisting it has been a "strong week" for him.

tbf, Trump will often insert a parenthetical "can you believe it?" into these stories to emphasize just how unbelievable they are. obviously he's a man to whom unbelievable things happen as often as they are needed to prove whatever point he wishes to make.

I'll admit that, as a person who is opposed to every aspect of his existence, I'm occasionally overly eager to go for the 'what a fucking moron' GOTCHA! at times when the facts perhaps don't necessarily warrant a GOTCHA!, but in this instance, it really does not seem like he's capable of separating the character from the actor who plays the character. I'm genuinely unconvinced that he's aware of the difference.

Mads Mikkelsen said in a 2016 CBS News interview that he had no idea what to think about Donald Trump as he had never met him.
"He’s obviously not the classic politician, that’s for sure. I can definitely laugh at some of the stuff he says but I can also go, 'Oh my God, did he say that?' I think he’s a fresh wind for some people, but that’s what you’re voting for, I guess, right? It’s a big job," he said.

The simplest explanation is that Trump forgot Anthony Hopkins' name so he substituted the name of the one role he played that everyone instantly recognizes. Chances are if he'd said "Anthony Hopkins" instead of "Hannibal Lector" fewer people in the audience would have known just who he was talking about anyway.

OK. I'm guessing Trump has no idea that there was a Lector-based TV series or that more than one actor ever played the part, so he probably thought all along it was Hopkins who said something nice about him. After all, who has time for all these unimportant details, when the only important or interesting thing was that the guy who played Lector knows how great he (Trump) is. The other details never mattered. Also, Trump forgot Hopkins' name. It didn't matter either.

"The Presidential oath, which the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment surely knew, requires the President to swear to 'preserve, protect and defend' the Constitution — not to 'support' the Constitution," said the filing by Trump's attorneys. "Because the framers chose to define the group of people subject to Section Three by an oath to 'support' the Constitution of the United States, and not by an oath to 'preserve, protect and defend' the Constitution, the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment never intended for it to apply to the President."
