Whiney, hashtags work by running words together like that.

last night Jimmy Kimmel did a bit on this stuff during his monologue and he referred to it by it's new name, X. it sounds so goddamn stupid when said out loud like that.

there was that duty-free store billionaire who gave away all his money and lived in a modest apartment for the remainder of his life and never let anyone know he was doing it. and there’s this guy who probably could have just hired a dietician/chef and is putting his son’s blood in him and posting through it for clout and the former is respectable and the latter very funny

I've been relatively successful at staying off Twitter the last week or so, which means I am relatively uninfirmed about the latest super-racist tweet Elon has dropped.

going great!

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/30/technology/elon-musk-dealbook-advertisers.html

At least half a dozen marketing agencies said the brands they represent were standing firm against advertising on X, while others said they had advised advertisers to stop posting anything on the platform. Some temporary spending pauses that advertisers have enacted in recent weeks against X are likely to turn into permanent freezes, they added, with Mr. Musk’s comments giving them no incentive to return.

Advertisers are “not coming back” to X, said Lou Paskalis, the founder and chief executive of AJL Advisory, a marketing consultancy. “There is no advertising value that would offset the reputational risk of going back on the platform.”

Elon’s going to have a full time job documenting in great detail all these companies not advertising on Twitter.

Gotta say, Musk complaining that advertisers leaving Twitter are killing Twitter gives me hope that Twitter can be killed, and that we can all at least indirectly play a role in its downfall.

go to mars and take trump with you elmo, (yah, i know y'all hate it, nmte, but he always be elmo to me). fuck elmo in his stupid-ass cybertruck. damn i wish i could make an elmo_drivin_cybertruck gif and no i ain't, or looking.

tbh I had my doubts about this but lately I'm actually convinced that Twitter is dead, "X" may remain but it's rapidly going to morph into some hybrid of 8chan and Truth Social. of the 500+ accounts I follow, a third have just left, and a third just exclusively post about how much Twitter sucks now. those who are still business as usual are either bots or sports accounts, which have become more useless as the auto-updating gets worse and worse. its kind of a pain trying to look everyone up on Bluesky but imo worth it

frogbs, Friday, 1 December 2023 20:35 (five months ago) link

What's funny about it is I really don't think Elon anticipated any of this. I know he wanted to make some radical changes but still thought the site would remain as active as always. I think he knew the "radical left" or whatever would be unhappy but that they'd ultimately stay on. He really thought he could strongarm the advertisers and keep the site running with 20% of the staff. He thought this because he's surrounded himself entirely with people who lick his boots 24/7. I'll miss the place but its kind of a beautiful thing to witness

frogbs, Friday, 1 December 2023 20:39 (five months ago) link

Walmart has stopped advertising on X, telling Forbes it found alternate platforms to engage its customers, marking the first large company to depart from the platform after X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk made a string of disparaging comments toward advertisers leaving the platform in an interview with the New York Times on Wednesday.
