The first time I saw a body of a Palestinian is the first time I thought about quitting. Reading and collating matter on it (as I do with many things via twitter) as I have is enough.

Many people have not been as careful; they have seen a lot of videos. What the effects will be are not yet clear, and won't be for a while.

yea that's definitely a problem for me too, a lot of the good folks on Twitter who hadn't left yet are posting about the Israel/Palestine conflict nonstop, and obviously that stuff is very important and needs to be exposed but it just depresses me so much to see it. I go on there for fun takes about LeBron James and videos from the Da Vinki twins, I don't really want to see the horrors of war alongside it

I'm not opposed to people posting thoughtfully about what's going on, but soon as you hit the comments it's gotten noticeable worse and more offensive.

I have curated my Twit/X thing well enough so that I don’t see much objectionable/disturbing stuff.

i just don't like its candy-like negative addiction effect, and the way you can lose a lot of time there without realizing.

Have curated it carefully but I want to keep with the detail in the conflict, which has meant that some imagery you don't necessarily want to see slipping through.

Though it's not a big enough deal to switch off.

Many others have absorbed an insane amount of images.

yea I regret having spent so much time on there during Trump's presidency, just felt like Twitter specifically was really good at giving you a steady stream of bad news and terrifying opinion pieces which just wound up being really bad for my mental health. I remember something Chris Hayes said about it back then, the fact that Trump was in the news so much and was saying a new horrible thing every day was just bad for everybody, it's not really healthy for people to have that much politics in their lives

I only signed up for Twitter around the time of the 2010 UK general election and it was good at helping me find new/interesting people, and establish a lot of new friendships, then between 2015-19 those friends became even more important. I am also forever thankful none of my immediate family found me or searched for me there.

one thing I've noticed lately is whenever a tweet like that goes viral, it either turns out to be stolen, or someone steals it from them word for word and gets way more engagement

obviously that's always been the case but it seems to be happening way more now and I feel like it's because Twitter is no longer a place of honor, perhaps in part due to being bought out by a guy whose entire shtick is stealing memes and cropping out the name of whoever made it

I've always seen stolen tweets on twitter. Not to say it's happening more often now.

When Musk does it say it's clearly stolen because there is no way he could be intentionally funny

i was using Twitter a lot for sports updates a few weeks ago and this one account tweeted out an impressive factoid tweet that got decent engagement, then found the same tweet copied word for word without attribution a few minutes after with about the same engagement as the original, with lots of "wow, astute observation" responses.

It’s a reasonable tweet, but people on the internet will absolutely argue about how any nod to convention is actually ableist, classist, etc. or invent totally new reasons why they don’t like your idea because they think it’s specifically about them. Wear whatever you like, people will react accordingly

You could enrage people by saying something like “I feel driving an automobile is safest when everyone follows the posted speed limit” and get the same result imo

The sort of people who would go to lengths to 'craft their special wedding experience' by imposing a dress code on all those who attend are also the sort who insist on bridesmaids in matching gowns, groomsmen in tuxedos, and who cater their wedding complete with waiters and bartenders. Possibly they'll also hold their wedding at a destination resort requiring you to buy airplane flights and book expensive rooms. iow, exactly none of my family, friends or acquaintances, thank god.

Funny because the original premise of the tweet is commenting on how you’ll often see women dressed up with men who…don’t, and now I see Aimless has managed to codify this as being overly demanding on the part of bridezilla types rather than, say, people feeling the need to impose a dress code so that you don’t get people showing up wearing tshirts and battered vans to a wedding.

(My wife and I were married in front of a small-town mayor with seven guests: her parents, my father and his wife, my brother, and two friends of ours. We didn't tell them what to wear but they all dressed up.)
