Mm, I don't think it'll be THAT close. A Biden blowout, nah, but it'll be comfortably enough in the end.

Xpost they matter insofar as accountability and doing the right thing, esp this one
I mean when you take it all back to him being a Norman Vincent Peale drone when young, this all makes sense, everything about him -- he keeps power-of-positive-thinking his way out of everything whenever possible, and when it doesn't, he either doesn't get it or gets it but can't admit it. There's really not much more to him than that, it's everything else he's enabled along the way that's been the infuriation.

I'm confident Biden will beat Trump, if only because it is much better for my mental health and it's not like I can fly the plane from my passenger seat. If it gets too close for comfort I can always shovel some money where I think it may do some good.

Anyway anticlimactic in the end; he tried one sneak-in of something and was shut down, a quick two question cross, one short followup and done. It's probably the least he's ever said in a legal context in his life and that amuses me greatly.

Trump is privately pressuring GOP to reject Ukraine/border deal to deny Biden a win.“Trump wants them to kill it because he doesn’t want Biden to have a victory. He told them he will fix the border when he is president,” per a source close to the talks https://t.co/fJHy5lOVeI— Igor Bobic (@igorbobic) January 25, 2024
― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 25 January 2024 21:05 (three months ago) link
I know the GOP is not serious about border security - it's really the only issue they have that has any traction with the voters anymore - so this is totally unsurprising
― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 25 January 2024 21:08 (three months ago) link
Thank God Biden's border thing is dead. We should all be rejoicing here. It was awful.
― B. Amato (Boring, Maryland), Thursday, 25 January 2024 21:43 (three months ago) link
yeah and I think McConnell and some of the old guard do want to fund Ukraine all the same... if this is killed, they'll probably find a way to send them some munitions
― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 25 January 2024 21:46 (three months ago) link
I know we've kind of entered some uncharted waters anyway and the end result here is fine since Biden's border thing wasn't great anyway, but my god, I can't help but be struck by how much sway Trump still manages when he doesn't even hold any office.

It's really something to take a few steps back and imagine these career politicians who have in many cases spent decades playing the game to accrue power and influence and who now just bend in whatever direction some dough-brained reality tv star happens to aimlessly hurl his feces.

Well, yeah, I get that the interests are aligned... but more to OL's point, it's hard to imagine them allowing it to be made so blindingly obvious in the public eye that they are taking orders from him. Just seems like it'd be embarrassing on some level to a politicians' ego, even if they were getting what they wanted, to have to do a whole dog and pony show along with it about how they sure are making the unelected orange dipshit happy.
