doesn't seem fair to namecheck Stephen A. Smith in there. he's wrong about a lot. it's sort of his thing.

Fani Willis waited until the very last minute to respond to Roman's motion to dismiss, sounds like the relationship did not begin until after Wade was divorced and after he was a part of the legal team, which should be helpful. Not sure why they let weeks go by before making a strong statement. It seems like at least in the context of the trial this should be completely thrown out, but no doubt GA republicans will do everything they can to drag it out.

I mean the only response that really matters is filing the official response in court. court of public opinion doesn't really matter here, at least as far as the case is concerned.

guessing they took their time to make sure they addressed all of the complaints. but I don't know how court works.

The president has described Trump to longtime friends and close aides as a “sick fuck” who delights in others’ misfortunes, according to three people who have heard the president use the profane description. According to one of the people who has spoken with the president, Biden recently said of Trump: “What a fucking asshole the guy is.”

The White House declined to comment.

Kaplan said that during a deposition for a fraud case that accused Trump of lending his name to a pyramid scheme through endorsements on “The Celebrity Apprentice,” the former president chastised Habba for offering Kaplan lunch. Kaplan, who also represents writer E. Jean Carroll in her successful sexual abuse and defamation cases against the former president — which have ended in multimillion dollar verdicts — said that the Trump team had “graciously offered to provide” her team with lunch as is often a courtesy practice between opposing counsel.

Later, however, Kaplan said that Trump asked her, “Well, how’d you like the lunch?” and taunted, “I told them to make you really bad sandwiches, but they can’t help themselves here. We have the best sandwiches.”

Kaplan said Trump then threw a huge pile of documents and exhibits across the table and stormed out of the room, then turned to his own attorney and yelled at her.

I am not even remotely interested in who or what Fani Willis did or didn't do. The case against Trump should remain the same, even if Willis is a shape-shifting lizard creature from the planet Vulcan.

Based on how easily Trump and the conservative echo chamber were able to turn Anthony Fauci- who at one point was polling as more popular than Trump- into a punching bag, I’m concerned about how hard they are going to go after her. Especially with the added dimension of massive sexism that is always so successfully deployed against women in power

Xpost I mean, does it matter (from a legal perspective) how they go after her? Obviously I don't want anybody going through a harassment campaign from edgelord Republicans, especially not a Black woman, but public opinion isn't going to have any bearing on the case itself.

speaking of which the other day this whole thing was brought up at the record store and an older guy started talking about how some art organization he was a part of in the 80s did a big event that was sponsored by Trump Tower and featured a speech by the man himself. apparently Trump arrived with some woman who clearly was not his wife, spoke for about 5 minutes and left, then just outright refused to pay a dime, which caused this organization to fold. I believe the way he put it was "fuck that guy, he's a huge asshole and I hope everyone knows it"

Taylor Swift should fly Concorde, which I recall is how Phil Collins was able to get from London to Philly in time to play both cities for Live Aid.

Here's the Wahington Post's latest on the Fani Willis stuff, it goes into lots of details of all the ins and outs. The bottom line is that the accusations may be ridiculous and technically unrelated to the actual case, but there are still many ways for this to go completely off the rails.

A love affair with someone you supervise automatically carries plenty of pitfalls. Often it's a bad idea. But this stuff happens everywhere all the time and I haven't heard a whisper that it wasn't consensual. The 'ethics' charges Trump's lawyers raised are all bogus afaics.

It's complete bullshit and a transparently craven move by the Trump team plus GA politicians to undermine the case. I just think it has a non-trivial chance of being consequential bullshit.

Until Taft led a successful effort to reform the cert process, they pretty much by law had to accept almost every appeal.

supposedly the justices discuss whether the case presents elements not adequately addressed by precedent and appropriately settled during appeal, thus requiring SCOTUS review. in reality, what f. hazel said.
