That made me look up Michael Rodd, who is not only still alive but somehow only 80.

Joe Don Baker turns 88 today!

I saw a clip of Wayne Newton at the Super Bowl, and was surprised and delighted to see him (1) alive and (2) having a nice chat with Guy Fieri.

Joe Don Baker turns 88 today!

I really thought he was dead — like, I have a false memory of reading about his death on social media. I re-watched Charley Varrick the other week (it's on Tubi); he's pretty terrifying in that.

Had the Newton revelation Saturday night when I finally started the 2nd season of Hacks and saw his cameo in the UFC scene.

He might be more plastic than man at this point.

Glen Michael and Stanley Baxter are truly the totems of this thread.

They're the Scottish Harry Belafonte/ Sidney Poitier.

The British Boy of Film Classification (Tom D.), Friday, 23 February 2024 10:51 (two months ago) link

When Stanley finally goes we should, at least, start a new thread or, my preference, close down the entire site. (Just kiddin', like)

Michael Jones, Friday, 23 February 2024 11:27 (two months ago) link

Stanley is also my personal Mandela Effect, mainly because (as he admits in his hugely entertaining biography) he wasn't going to come out until after his death, and his biography weirdly ends with his 'death' - people gather for his last moments and he fades away. But then an epilogue that says he didn't actually die after all is is frail but fine.

So weird that he outlived Victor Lewis-Smith, who did so much to promote Stanley's life, achievements and place in British comedy.

Came here to note Ann Vernon, she was in a movie I watched last night (Shakedown, 1950.) James Redd mentioned her when she was 97. She just turned 100 in January.

Also seems that whilst in the US or at least for that film she dropped the final ‘e’ in her first name so Ann Vernon instead of Anne Vernon.

Of course her real name was something entirely different

In a similar vein, she's already been mentioned a couple times ITT, but I was surprised to see Nancy Sinatra posting on threads about the Beyoncé albums.

Jim Rosenthal. Not actually *that* old (76). Just thought he was dead.

In November 2019, Rosenthal became the new "Voice of JACK", replacing and following the death of actor Paul Darrow as the new on-air voice of Oxfordshire's local JACK branded radio stations and their national radio station Union JACK.[19] He is the lead presenter of matchday coverage on Manchester United's in-house channel MUTV and is one of the presenters of Amazon Prime's Premier League coverage.
