Since I am the one PA voter on this board who refuses to vote for Biden, I just feel the need to say that I am not a socialist.

Also, cry more about it, I don’t give a fuck.

i can do it with two hands, too!

Honestly, I just am tired of having this conversation. I have my belief about this, you have yours, and hyperfixation on it and me— bringing it up when I am not part of the conversation, when I haven’t even mentioned it anytime recently— just goes to show that it’s more about you than it is about me. Enjoy yourself.

being mad at one guy and spinning that out into a whole thing about a group of guys you can't avoid online is pretty on point for the thread tho

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 02:11 (three months ago) link

when i hear that non voting socialists are numerous

When I hear that non voting ANYONE exists in the USA especially with the state your democracy is in, I feel like I am taking crazy pills.
I cannot fathom how you can rail against the shit going on and NOT VOTE. "my vote wont matter" well of course it fucking wont if you dont bother with it.

(and yes yes I know, disenfranchisement thanks to voting hours/times, loctions etc compared to where I am, to be duly noted).

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 03:49 (three months ago) link

I'm guessing most of the non-voters simply dngaf. I think a very large portion of the country just has zero interest in politics whatsoever.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 03:54 (three months ago) link

i dont think so

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 03:54 (three months ago) link

fwiw, the non-voters are rarely the ones who rail against the shit going on. they are simply disengaged from politics, or exhausted from trying to keep body and soul together, or living in a crack house, or too timid to think their ideas are worth much, or just don't place much priority on it. There are myriad ways people never get around to voting.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 03:57 (three months ago) link

Trayce lives in a country with compulsory voting though, right? we balance out the people who should vote, or should vote more reasonably, with the people who definitely shouldn’t vote because they ponder doing so but aren’t sure which candidate is more handsome

wish I was kidding but I know several friends who had parents or acquaintances who claimed to have voted for the cuter candidate. possibly something we should consider covering more in the press. who’s a cutie

We have middling reviews for Trump from Stormy Daniels, but nothing comparable for Biden so that's a tough metric. Hunter likes to fuck, tho, so maybe that counts in his favor.

Hardline immigration policies? Both parties.
Support for genocidal ethno-fascism? Both parties.
Total disregard and dismissal of working class peoples’ struggles? Both parties.
Unequivocal support of the police and the carceral state? Both parties.
Totally beholden to large business interests who pull the levers of government? Both parties.
Disregard for the will of people and what actual democracy really means? Both parties.

Anyway, you were saying something about democracy being at stake?

The disenfranchisement inherent to a two-party oligarchical gerontocracy masquerading as democracy isn’t my problem to solve. The wannabe dictator is a problem of democracy itself, not the problem of leftists seeking liberation, and casting it as such is mere displacement and avoidance of the problem at hand: unfettered capitalism and true democracy are incompatible.

I think the current two candidates are the furthest apart of any postwar candidates, I think Biden is better than any president of the last 60 years and I think Trump is possibly the worst (even if the first term mostly didn't deliver on potential threat with more noise than signal) - but I don't like the berating of people that see things differently. I wouldn't like it even if it worked, but there's very little evidence it works. I think its counter-productive, no one is entitled to a vote

anvil, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 14:03 (three months ago) link

To be fair to Table Pennsylvania is allegedly looking good for Biden, he’ll be riding Casey’s coattails.

Maybe you should talk to your guy about 30,000+ Palestinians that we have helped to kill— against popular opinion— before getting on any sort of high horse about what constitutes democracy and dictatorship. That the wannabe dictator would “do the same thing” isn’t the smart retort many seem to think it is.

As I stated already he's not my guy. Just because I voted for him doesn't mean I agree with every policy. I am disgusted by the slaughter of thousands of trapped people, and it is absolutely disgusting what has happened in Gaza. Don't put words in my mouth. Not voting for either candidate isn't quite the bold statement you think it is.

a (waterface), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 14:16 (three months ago) link

If you think things are bad now, a second Trump presidency would be much much worse.

a (waterface), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 14:17 (three months ago) link

honestly, the differences in domestic policy, political appointments, and jurisprudence re: the National Labor Review Board, etc. are opaque to most voters. a lot of left-leaning people, discounting whether they identify as democrats, have trouble identifying specific policies and actions that Trump did other than something about the supreme court and changing the public dialogue to be outwardly discriminatory and hostile.

I'm guilty of that sometimes. But if you go through the actual policy record and appointments (or lack thereof in some cases) the Trump years were miserable. We had an unlawfully appointed directory of homeland security sending unmarked armed federal employees to Portland, Oregon during protests. We were stuck with a FCC commissioner who had no interest in regulating phone scams and fraud. A USPS postmaster general who held a stake in a subcontractor and had to be told he couldn't send out inaccurate information on voting by mail, let alone his attempts to gut the agency. A HUD secretary who didn't fill positions and didn't know anything about housing or real estate, etc. etc.

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 15:46 (three months ago) link

if you look at Wikipedia pages for various cabinet offices, their lists of previous secretaries pretty much always just have this rat's nest in the Trump years where everybody's either provisional or acting or deemed to have "unlawful tenure" or whatever i.e.

The USPS has actually improved some in the last couple of years. Their new ground shipping rate, Ground Advantage, is cheaper but just as quick. Some of the other things people were complaining about actually turned out to have long-term positive effects. And now that the USPS is no longer required to fund all its employees' health insurance 75 years out, or whatever the fuck it was, it's in a lot stronger financial position. Nobody talks about them going bankrupt anymore.
