Same goes for watching Belly, probably.

I have seen Belly the band but not the movie. Good show, but it was shortened by thunder and lightning, because it was an outdoor show. Maybe good that I hadn't smoked a blunt.

every time I look at Twitter these days, I'm struck by how much the presence of blue-check subscribers has degraded the experience. I know this point has been made many times before, but reading replies to any semi-popular tweet now is painful. is the subscription revenue really worth it?

its for sure not, musk straight up wrecked the site cause all of his sv friends told him they would pay for twitter

I think racism has become worse on the political edges of American society, which makes it more virulent and impactful to POC and women. People can come on @X and other platforms, remain anonymous, and find common ground with other racists, homophobes, anti-semites etc that… https://t.co/isT8A0PXVP— Mark Cuban (@mcuban) February 26, 2024

His take is simple, but tweets are like that. It's not like he got it badly wrong. otoh, he's a white multi-billionaire and a publicity hog who loves to hear himself talk, so for him it's like having an opinion about dolphins or the price of wheat.

not defending stancil but he's the opposite of a milkshake duck, right? he's a full-time poster who is venturing into the real world, not a viral sensation whose fame sheds light on embarrassing and unsavory ideas/opinions.

Around 2003 in Chile, when the original trilogy of Star Wars began airing on television there, they did this funny thing to avoid cutting to commercial breaks. They stitched the commercials into the films themselves. Here is one of them, with the English dub added in. pic.twitter.com/wC7N2vPNvv— Windy 🛸 (@heyitswindy) March 2, 2024

there's a named recurring character who goes on the record, just an IC, who i worked with. the full story of what happened to him is kind of nuts on a personal level but not globally significant. he was a musk fan and was excited about the acquisition. spent a couple of months sucking up before being fired for leaking. he was not leaking. couple of other interesting (to me) ICs on the record talking about how they ~~feel~~. the story about musk personally dismantling servers over christmas in sacramento was new to me, but i think it's lifted from the mossberg book and seems like a pretty self-serving thing for musk sources to lie about so i don't really believe it.

the server relocation story has all of the classic bits: people not stopping rich guy from doing something that probably breaks a dozen facility rules and regulations because they can't tell him no, multiple laws involving data privacy being broken, safety just ignored, tweets about how other people were dumb to tell him it was a bad idea
and him admitting, mere weeks later, "we probably shouldn't have done that"
― ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 5 March 2024 21:52 (two months ago) link
I assume a good portion of the servers were just toast by the time they made it up the coast, or needed so much reconfiguration that it was more of a time and money sink to do what he did than it would have been to do a planned transition
