thomp, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:41 (fourteen years ago) link

I dunno, I liked the video playthrough of the incredibly hard mario level.

MAAAAH-SHROOUUUMM

JimD, Thursday, 13 August 2009 19:43 (fourteen years ago) link

haha, i have watched way too many of that guy's SFIV videos... his schtick is kind of incredibly stupid and annoying and yet i've wasted a ton of time watching it, too much

"what? what the hell's his name?"
"the SCUMM bar?"
"each part has its own intro music? what the heck?"

...

Nhex, Thursday, 13 August 2009 20:23 (fourteen years ago) link

yes i could not actually tell if i found him more or less annoying than the voices of the in-game characters

thomp, Thursday, 13 August 2009 20:43 (fourteen years ago) link

I remember one review bringing up the point that the dialogue in Secret was never meant to actually be heard aloud, since there was no voice version originally - this impacts how the dialogue was (awkward, stylistically and hilariously) written, so when you hear these read aloud it just doesn't fit... even that bit of video up there seems to support it.

Nhex, Thursday, 13 August 2009 20:47 (fourteen years ago) link

watching those monkey island ones, it's quite entertaining but fucks sake the guy doesn't realise the sword masters house becomes marked on the map and he keeps going to the store keeper to follow him.

haha clip part 19 and the pulley puzzle LOLOLOL

his trying to solve the acid/jailed pirate puzzle is infuriating

cozwn (webinar), Friday, 14 August 2009 07:40 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, this is different to the usual walkthrough vids as he's solving the puzzles live in front of us. So it can be frustrating for us watching him miss blatantly obvious solutions.

He's all of a sudden solved both the inventory and acid puzzles, after a brief time out, perhaps cheated but he was almost there with the jail one.

Strange as well, he says "i didn't see the chicken in my items list because it's not the same as the original game", hmmmm i thought he'd never played it before ?

still, i'm way too into this.

Great Scott! It's Molecular Man. (Ste), Friday, 14 August 2009 08:20 (fourteen years ago) link

dsp isn't the most patient of dudes as it is so watching him trying to solve monkey island is hilare

cozwn, Friday, 14 August 2009 08:32 (fourteen years ago) link

so is this guy known in other circles of vidya gaming? i could only see TMNT vids on his profile.

Great Scott! It's Molecular Man. (Ste), Friday, 14 August 2009 08:34 (fourteen years ago) link

and also how he solved the underwater puzzle was pretty funny.

he seems quite handy with the hint button, which i can't even believe exists.

he's a pro fighting game player (won evo, the big fighting game championship) and he has been doing video walkthroughs for a year or so now. I think his yt page is pretty popular

he is whiny and insufferable generally so it's good watching him struggle so much w/tSoMI

Flipnote Studio is now out worldwide, some good stuff out there. would love to see the idea behind this become an actual game.

What's the funny there, Jeff? Unless you are laughing at a steering wheel with a wristband, which is vaguely amusing.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:23 (fourteen years ago) link

lady, if u have to ask...

cozwn, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh my god, it's not a sim! It's got Wii graphics! That's so funny! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha yawn.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:28 (fourteen years ago) link

dude the mechanics of formula one racing translated to the wii wheel - pretty fucking funny imo

please link to them and breathe into a paper bag (jjjusten), Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:30 (fourteen years ago) link

As opposed to a PS3/Xbox controller? Old joke, not funny, yawn.

cozwn, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:35 (fourteen years ago) link

EZ sorry, it's just the specially designed wii wheel (not the game) that I find hilarious. Also the idea that the most elitist, snobby motorsport (also the most technical and challenging) can now be played with Mario Kart motion controls. Nothing against the wii - the game is coming to 360 and ps3 next year and if either of those versions also come with a fake F1 style plastic wheel to stick your motion control remote in, I will be laughing then too.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:55 (fourteen years ago) link

I want that wheel for Mario Kart! So stylish.

It is a great juxtaposition, just a little tired of it, that's all. I'm sorry I was grouchy - hadn't eaten dinner yet.

I was enraged? Really? RARRGH!

I said I didn't get the funny, and the explanation of the funny did not make it funny. I thought it dumb, and weak.

U sad.

I mean, uh, not that I want to wade in or anything, but cankles was sort of right. The normal response when sombody posts something funny (which other people also find funny but which you don't find funny) is just to ignore it, isn't it? Not to go all "what's funny about that? I don't think that's funny at all", which does imply butthurtedness. Also, who goes around giving shit to Jeff? Jeff's really nice!

Yeah, a big gamer with pretty strong but informed views on gaming, which often leads to me looking down on most gaming reviewers since they talk complete nonsense. I know what makes a good game, and what makes a bad game... I've been wasting my free time playing the bloody things long enough to tell the difference (unlike most gamers out there).

You'll not often find me lavishing unfounded praise upon the likes of Grand Theft Auto or Gears of War, but rather on actual high quality games such as Okami and Super Mario Galaxy, which really are examples of excellent and polished gaming design.

I think he's confusing game design with art design, for one thing. Gears of War's game design is pretty sophisticated. But also, lol noob.
